Magellan RoadMate 2200T GPS - Gets you where you need to go. But that's it.

Pros Good battery life, solid, basic navigation features, inexpensive
Cons outdated maps, cruddy POI features
Recommended it? Yes

I have a lousy sense of direction. Seriously. I need to drive somewhere 5 times before i remember how to get there. Want to give me a North South East West heading? Forget it. I don't carry a compass. If there's a detour on my way to work, I have to call my wife at home to ask how to get around it... Read full review »

I had been researching handheld GPS units for several weeks, playing with them in stores and reading professional and user reviews on the internet. I had narrowed it down to the Magellan 2200T (available at CostCo for $300 + 6% tax) and the Garmin Nuvi350 (available at Buydig.com for $377). I had... Read full review »

Underrated, if anything - works really well!

Pros well designed, navigation is idiot-proof, long battery life, audio loud and clear,...
Cons somewhat dated graphics, very occasional mispronunciations of street names, 1.5 million...
Recommended it? Yes

I've never owned a GPS unit before, so I spent a lot of time researching the various models before choosing this one. My reasons for doing so were a combination of price (Buy.com has refurbs for $169) and the fact that it offers text-to-speech (spoken street names). The next-lowest priced model... Pros Very Bright,Fairly quick route calc, Quick Satellite reception.
Cons Poor route calc, ugly and un-detailed map view, Poor POI database, very user un-friendly.

Having read the positive reviews, I ordered the Lowrance iWay250c ($200) from TigerDirect last-minute (7 days before I left) before my trip across western Canada.
I was counting on the legendary fast shipping, but it didn't arrive in time, so I grabbed a Magellan RoadMate 2200T ($389) from the... Read full review »

so far, so good

Pros Nice looking, easy to use and 99.9% accurate.
Cons Doesn't SPEAK to you everytime you need to make a turn.
Recommended it? Yes

Easy to program, easy to read, and very accurate. Only one fault so far, it doesn't speak to you EVERY time you have to make the turn, so you might have to look at the screen to make sure you are on track, which can be dangerous and distracting. But so far, so good. Got it for my husband for... Read full review »

Pros Great voice instructions, clear maps, recalculates well if you make a wrong turn.
Cons Easier with a pointer for tapping screen; also, must know the city or zip code.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had this Magellan for about a month. It took a few trips to learn how it works. The good: It was fairly easy to learn. It easily slides into a pocket or purse. The voice instructions are thorough and very useful -- you hardly need to look at the device when you are driving. There are a variety... Read full review »

Great Price for the features, but I've returned mine

Pros Easy to program, and it seemed to recognize addresses.
Cons I've now read a number of reviews citing the frozen screen problem.
Recommended it? No

Purchased my unit at Costco at a great price. Unit is easy to use, but it seemed stubborn to actually recalculate my route while I was traveling in the Colorado Rockies. It insisted on my making a u-turn rather than finding another route. Biggest problem for me was it froze at one location, and... Read full review »

Pros Fast, strong reception, good size, easy to see, easy to understand.
Cons Promised TOPO maps not available yet.

I wanted a GPS that I could use for traveling, and hiking. The 2200t claims to be upgradable to the crossOverGPS.

I bought this unit yesterday, and have been extremely impressed with the reception. It has consistently tracked 10 satellites in my basement. No other GPS has been able to... Read full review »
