The Day That It All Changed
It was Late November 2001. On this gloomy, rainy night, my life would change forever. (This can't just be about a video game, can it?) This night marked my last trip to Chucky Cheese's. If Chucky Cheese's is the place where a kid can be a kid, than the last trip to... Read full review »

I was looking for a football game for my system (N64) that would compare with the great NFL 2k1 of Dreamcast... Not only did I find a game that could compare -- I found a game that went above and beyond. This game exceeds all expectations I've had for any Nintendo 64 game. I chose this game because... Cons Takes too much memory to save your Franchise Mode

As a big football fan, I was looking for the best football game on the N64 and I knew that I could count on EA Sports to deliver the goods in Madden 2001. I bought NFL Quarterback Club 2000 last year and was so disappointed in the game due to the fact that it had so many bugs in the program. The... Read full review »

Pros Great Combination of Simulation and Gameplay
Cons Commentary is repitious after a season

I have completed at least one season of Madden football every year since 1990 but the latest installment of Madden is by far the best. Almost graphically flawless, Madden 2001 delivers what all the previous incarnations promised. A great mix of simulation and gameplay to make this the first "must... Read full review »

Madden NFL 2001 for Nintendo 64 is great. EA Sports has created a dandy. EA has really moved up in the ranks of graphics, which they haven't really been the leader in over the years. As always, the games sound, game play, and value of fun is definetly high. There also a lot of new and fun features... Read full review »

_ EA Sports has always had a special way of making a game more realistic year by year. Each game coming, that being outdated by its newer version. Madden 98' came and gone, as did Madden 99'. Now it's 2000's turn and boy, does it kick some butt. Not only is the replay value endless, but the... Read full review »

I'll make this short and sweet, Madden 2001 is one of the best games ever to reach the Nintendo 64 platform. This game has so many features that I could spend hours playing it alone. I played the Madden Challenge for days and even weeks, playing the game. I don't own this game, we borrowed it from... Read full review »

A good game but not quite NFl 2K1

Pros good game play
Cons boring commentary and poor graphics
Recommended it? Yes

Due to the technological advances of Dreamcast this Nintendo64 does not quite match its top competitor NFL 2K1. The game play is in many ways better than NFL 2K1 especially the running part of the game with much more moves and jukes and the passing game is decent. However, Madden looses out when... Being an avid sports and sports video game fan, Madden 2001 was a must buy. Upon playing this game, it became apparent why Madden's line of products has been so successful. Cons AWFUL commentary, not enough crowd interaction.

For the past few years, I have been guilty of falling victim to the incredible graphics of the Acclaim NFL Quarterback games...Why didn't i just stick with Madden? I bought Madden NFL 2001 in hopes of owning a GOOD football game with GREAT gameplay (two things the Quarterback Club games lacked)... Read full review »

Madden NFL 2001 [E]

Considering its humble beginnings on the Sega Genesis, the Madden series has come a long way (and even more yardage has been covered by the PlayStation2's inaugural scrimmage). Even with expectations high, Madden NFL 2001 for the Nintendo 64 is very, very good. This game looks better than the original NFL Quarterback Club--an early standard in football visuals--and plays like the previous year's version of Madden on the PlayStation. EA Sports has added some new playability features, such as collectable Madden Cards for fulfilling certain tasks in the game. The Madden Cards can be traded with friends, using the Nintendo 64 memory card, and can be used to unlock secret game codes, players, stadiums, and legendary NFL teams. The new two-minute drill feature allows up to 10 players to compete for the highest score. But Madden NFL 2001does have some trouble in a couple of areas. The CPU has a problem with clock management when it is behind with time running out; sometimes it will fail to call a time-out and let the clock expire at the half or at the end of the game. Madden himself sounds a little run down in this game as he only has a few phrases and he says them over and over and over. The crowd noise and the cheers are not very well done and can get annoying. Despite its few flaws, pound for pound this is the best NFL football title ever made for the Nintendo 64. --Todd Mowatt Pros: Best football game yet made for the Nintendo 64 Collectable Madden Cards can be used to unlock secret game codes, players, stadiums, and teams New 2-minute drill feature Cons: Clock-management bug sometimes lets time expire at the half Repetitive Madden phrases
