Bought 2, both have severe color distortion
Black and white works fine, but color is terrible! It cycles continuously from light to dark with odd tinting. For example, for 5 out of every 10 seconds the Caucasian people have neon orange lips and cafe au lait skin tones. The other 5 they are pasty white. We bought the special support for $5... Buggy!
So this DVD player does work -- however every time you put in a disc, it defaults to english subtitles no matter what. Ok no big deal I can turn off subtitles. Except this only partially works. On the Team America World Police disc, when you turn off English Subtitles you get French subtitles... Read full review »
You get what you pay for...
I'm glad it was cheap. We have experienced the same audio/video tracking problem as well. We also have noticed some weird issues with the subtitles. Every time a DVD is put in, the English subtitles automatically start, regardless of the setup menu choices. The player also seems to show every... Read full review »
disappointment
We bought this DVD player and for the first few months there was only one problem: if you pause it, when you resume the soundtrack is off from the visual and the only way to fix it is to turn the player off and then on again (and lose your place on the DVD, which negates the usefulness of the pause... You get what you pay for but $30 was too much
I have not experienced any of the sound or picture quality issues others describe but that may be because I have only had the chance to use the player 5 times over the course of 2 months. The fifth DVD I watched is now stuck in the player. I contacted customer service via e-mail and was given... Read full review »
Throw-away electronics!
Well, my $60 Samsung died on me after 18 months of moderate use. So I bought the Memorex based on looks, time display, and price. After hooking it up I realized that my audio is almost non existent. Picture looks great for such a cheap unit, but the audio output on this particular unit is junk... Read full review »
Much better than others
My story begins more than a year ago when I decided to buy a DVD for my toddler (now 3 years old) boy to watch his movies, so I got the cheapest DVD player in Sears: an Apex for 40 bucks... luckily I bought the extended warranty for $10 (I strongly suggest this) and when the Apex started to fail I... Memorex Review
Bought mine a while back at best buy, yeah a little cheap and lacking some extras but it does a fine job of playing dvds. Read full review »
Horrible
We've owned this player for 2 months and after the first month, it stopped reading discs on the first try. We sit in front of it and open and close, open and close, open and close, trying to get the thing to read the disc. Occasionally it works. However, it never makes it through the whole movie...
