The FRUSTRATING KLH R5100!!!

bychoc1 Jun 20, 2011
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros A bulky oversized AM/FM Stereo unit with easy to connect speakers.
Cons Fails common sense relative to controls and ease of use.  Poorly written manual,...
Recommended it? No

This device is a casual user's nightmare!!

PROBLEMS:

1. On/Off button doesn't turn it off!  It turns it on and/or switches the unit to standby.  To turn it off you unplug it from the wall.

2. Impossible to use w/out the User's Manual.  Again, without reading the... Read full review »

Pros Still works great after 4+ years.
Cons People with name brand units brag about how much more they spent.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the KLH 5100 for about 135.00 in January 2003.
I now have had it for 4+ years and it still works like the day I bought it. It rocks with clean sound and works well as an entertainment system. Any comments either way send to grffn_dvd@yahoo.com Read full review »

Bought this a few years back for about $100 @ Best Buy at a time when I didn't have much money to replace a dead high-end Pioneer receiver. For that amount, it is a good deal, with a reasonable amount of power and features.

One BIG FLAW ruins an otherwise GREAT OVERALL receiver

byjohnnyangel94 Jan 2, 2006
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Cheap, sleek, great sound and options, nice-looking, great first receiver.
Cons ONE HUGE ONE: No "memory function" for bass/treble - must toggle them EVERY use.
Recommended it? No

I'll just cut right to the chase. I bought this receiver Christmas of 2002 and it didn't take me long to realize that I had to set the sound (literally push one of the bass/treble settings) EVERY TIME I turned the receiver on and off, and/or switched back and forth from setting (tv/tape/cd/stereo,... Great unit, here's how to make it better

Pros Great for budget-limited shoppers or for a cheap bedroom system.
Cons Can't find a universal remote that works with KLH.
Recommended it? Yes

I won't spend too long repeating the excellent descriptions of this receiver that have already been written. I purchased this unit about 2 years ago for $100 on sale, and I couldn't be happier. It's not a THX certified 7.1 system, but it doesn't have that kind of tag, either. I also noticed a nasty... Read full review »

I purchased this receiver about a year ago, while working at Best Buy. I knew from the start that this was a budget receiver...so I wasn't too surprised when I hooked up the digital connection for my xbox console, and immediately noticed the noise from the digital circuit. The noise is audible... Read full review »

Pros Cheap, sounds great loud
Cons Hissing sound, not very great speakers

I bought this receiver in a package with 5 speakers and a sub for $150. It was a floor model, so I was taking a risk I guess, but the guy threw in a free 3 year warranty. The price was amazing. The sound quality wasn't so amazing. At first when I plugged it in, I used regular RCA cables to connect... Read full review »

I bought this receiver at a pawn shop for $75 and I was not expecting as good of performance as I got.

Pros Many features. Very low cost.
Cons Possible quality problems regarding digital inputs.

The model has many features going for it and I bought mine at a 5 a.m. after Thanksgiving sale -- it was a huge bargain at $99 with rebates. HOWEVER, I also had a problem with the sound output -- I bought an optical cable to hook up to my KLH brand DVD player (That was $19.95 on sale with... Read full review »

Pros High power, decent connectivity, super-easy setup, clean remote layout, 6ch direct input.
Cons No DTS decoding, noise when using Dolby Digital decoding, only 3 month warranty.

I got my KLH R5100 for Christmas two years ago but couldn't review it because Epinions didn't have the item listed. My parents picked one up at Best Buy for $100 after a price drop and rebate.

Physically, this receiver is larger than most 5.1 models because the internal... Read full review »
