Too much money for too little
Updated 9/10/04 - see below.
I have a 0.5 acre lot with some fairly steep (25-30 degree slope) embankments. I looked at reviews, talked with several people, and finally decided to buy the JS63C (with the optional locking front casters). I liked the reputation for quality and knew others...

Nice Mower
I am very pleased with my John Deere JA60 it is simple, easy to use, durable, and starts on the first pull even after 2 years.
No problems to date and would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Pros and the Con, Con Con
I have had the JS63C for approx. 2 1/2 years. I researched mowers for quite some time and finally settled for this model due to the mower having casters and the John Deere name. Overall this mower has been a great mower except when using the bagging system. It continues to crank on the first or... Read full review »
The lawn-mower frame broke TWICE,... never again...
the lawnmower in question WAS a John Deere jx-75, the frame where the grass is thrown up in the bag or mulched with the plug has a BAD HABIT of cracking and breaking due to the design and ENGINEERING with the aluminum frame(this happened TWICE in the SAME PLACE!!!),I since have a TROY BILT 210 and... Many compromises may make a more expensive mower a better buy for you
If you're used to base model, relatively inexpensive lawnmowers such as this one, my gripes may seem unfair. I concede that it's not fair to expect the JS60 to perform as well as models costing twice as much. But if you're used to better lawnmowers, read on to find out what you give up by settling... Nothin' Runs Like a Deere!
If your in the market looking for a new lawn mower look no further then the John Deere JS63C! The JS63C is powered by a strong 6.75 horse OHV 4 cycle engine. You could probably run into wet grass over 3 feet and it'll just plow right through it! While this engine is not the quietest of them, it has... Read full review »
John Deere JX75 Walk Behind
For the extra money this is one of the best lawn mowers I have ever owned. I have had Lawn Boy,Craftsman and Murray in the past. They do not hold a comparison to the John Deere, it starts on the first pull, mulches very well and the self propelled will run you around the block if you put it in 5th... Read full review »
A Mulching Monster
When I moved from my old house I left behind my old mower. And I mean old. It did not have one safety feature and was rusting out. I had sod installed at my new location and wanted a really good mower. In my research about growing grass I read that mulching the grass is better than bagging. The... Read full review »
lousy transmission
My mower started every time on the first or second pull. But, this is the second John Deere mower I have had in which the transmission has gone out.I had a John Deere 14SB and the transmission went out.The cost to repair it was going to be greater than $350 on a mower that costs $650. So it was not... Read full review »
I'm a fan of the Deere
I'll begin by saying that I have a John Deere mower, a John Deere edger, a John Deere weedeater, a John Deere thermometer hanging on my fence, and a John Deere cap hanging in my mud room. I LIKE John Deere stuff. Almost every neighbor of mine has a Honda mower with the plastic mowing deck, but I... Read full review »
