This thing is garbage!
I purchased a Cobra 500 intending to replace my little base model yellow Garmin Etrex. I am an avid hunter and outdoors person, and have used my Etrex extensively. Great, love mine!
I purchased a Cobra GPS 500 instead of some of the other more expensive models (I tried a few of them and liked the Cobra the best). Unreliable
The GPS 500 had a great deal of trouble locking on to satellites, even in open fields. I often lost contact. In addition, the screen resolution was too low to use the map function. Comparing its readings with friends GPS units (Magellan, Garmin), the Cobra's readings were off by a couple hundred... Read full review »
The Cobra 500 GPS unit has worked great for me!
I have had the Cobra 500 for 2 weeks and I love it! I'm in the Navy stationed on Guam and I use for navigation out in the ocean so I can make it to hidden dive sites that can only be found by GPS coordinates. The Cobra 500 GPS is advertised with many desirable features and at a reasonable cost. However, these features are of no value if the GPS won't lock on satellites properly.
