Currently on our 3 computer home network we have a Pentium 3-450, an Athlon 550, and a Pentium 2-266. I scored the Pentium 3 off an auction site, and got a good deal at the time. The week after we bought the Athlon 550 chip, prices went down and the 650 chip was the same price as the 550 a week... Read full review »

I admit, I at one time had an Intel Pentium III 500mhz Slot 1 processor. Actually I even bought a second and had a dual processor system for over 6 months. The reason I bought them then and not now though is the lack of competitors. I desperately awaited the Athlon from AMD but could not hold out... Read full review »

Pros Extreme overclocking capability. Runs cooler compared to Katmai Pentium III.
Cons People who do not want risk system instability will be turned off by overclocking.
Recommended it? Yes

I did not know of the 500E's overclock capability when I bought it. Being an avid overclocker, I tried setting the FSB to 124 (the normal being 100) using ABIT's SOFTMENU. The thing started up Windows at 620mhz with no problems. What? I was surprised that it went past the BIOS startup and was more... Read full review »
