Ikaruga: Part Sky Shark, Part Pac Man, All Game Baby!
I've grown up with scrolling shooters. The drug store that was right up the road from my house used to have two arcade machines. Usually it had a scrolling shooter. At first it was R-type, then Life Force, finally the owner brought in Sky Shark. I became really good at these games and could show... Read full review »
You won't like it - Ikaruga
For many newer gamers, Ikaruga is going to be one of those games that will easily be passed over. They will skim over the back of the box, set it back on the shelf and look for something with more colors and shiny backgrounds.
For others, however, Ikaruga can easily fill the void that...

Treasure's Newest Classic: Ikaruga
"Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm a shmup fan".
Acknowledging that you're a fan of the shoot-'em-up (or shmup, as they're lovingly referred to by the hardcore crowd) in this day and age of 3D graphics and epic games is sort of like admitting you're an alcoholic at the local AA meeting. You're...

I don't know how to say it but it's still good.
Good old fashion shooters like Raiden or Blazing Lazers are getting to be a rare thing in this day and age like a smart move by George W. Bush. Unlike Bush they are still somewhat popular and I'm Republican here. Enter the intense arcade-like shooter Ikaruga by Atari and the dudes at Treasure. Wait... Read full review »
What is Old School? How Do You Get To Be It?
These days, the term old school gamer gets tossed around more than the Brooklyn Brawler did during the "hey day" of his illustrious career. Kids today consider themselves to be old school and a classic gamer because the started out playing games with Final Fantasy VII. Though that is a great game... Read full review »

Brutally Difficult, but Definitely Worth a Play
Allow me to preface this review with the fact that this game is EXTREMELY hard, moreso than almost any other game I have played, the only possible exception being Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the SNES. So if you aren't up for a challenge, don't even bother; you can stop reading now.
For...

Oldschool Fun
Intro
I went out and bought this game just based on the reviews I had read. I usually don't do that; I'm always preaching "Rent before you buy". But this game wasn't that talked about and wasn't really given a chance. So it was impossible for me to find to rent. I took a chance and I'm...

A Challenging Masterpiece
Introduction:
2D space-shooters are becoming somewhat of a rarity these days, especially with the onslaught of incredibly complex, 3D games which were never possible before the "next generation" consoles came around. This being said, I don't think that anyone really even wants a 2D...

Pure madness
Shooters are a dying breed, much to the dismay of self-proclaimed "hardcore" gamers everywhere. Manipulating a tiny sprite around a screen full of six-hundred other tiny sprites is a lost joy -- that "in-the-zone" feeling as you fuse with the game, weaving your little ship through a swarm of enemy...
