I've had my floormate for about 2 years, and it has never failed to properly clean the wood floors. My house is entirely wood floors, and I have 3 dogs who constantly track in dirt, snow, and yard debris.
When I first got the floor mate, I cleaned my hardwood floors the way I... Read full review »

Have gone through three of these units,(work them hard).Great machine for the money if used properly, some folks complaining about lack of suction should make sure they empty dirty water tank when full and reset it when necesary to ensure vaccum seal. Read full review »

not that great

Pros easy to use, holds enough water for a large room, cleans pretty well
Cons cheaply made, breaks easily, won't last very long.
Recommended it? No

I purchased one. It started leaking not too long after I started using it. And the filter piece gets dirty really quickly. Then the water reservior got warped? and now won't snap into place. I then purchased this newer model. It worked for a little while, then it stoped spraying water all together... Read full review »

Pros Good mopping results when working
Easy to use
Cons Plastic components break down
Leaks cause internal corrosion and machine failure
Recommended it? No

I don't like mopping, so I purchased this machine as an upgrade to my existing floormate which was a previous model that was fidly and difficult to use and didn't work so well. Using the Hoover Floormate spinscrub made mopping floors much more convenient with good results. It doesn't work... Read full review »

I have approx 2300 sq feet of laminate wood floors in my house, 2 dogs and a hubby that fishes and hunts every chance he gets. There are always foot prints, paw prints and dirt being tracked through the house. I needed help keeping up with the floors!

I have read the reviews on this page,... Read full review »

Pros Cleans excellent Well Constructed sturdy and fit parts Easy to use and maintain
Cons Expensive The older 3000 cleans a bit better Hoover brand cleaning solution not very good
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the SC 500 after using my sisters older 3000 model thinking this one was better as it is a newer model. I was wrong. The older model seem to vacuum-up the solution better and the brushes were far more aggressive in scrubbing my laminate floor. It did take me a while to get the hang of it... Read full review »

Great for Tile Floors

byfauxvirgo Dec 26, 2007

Pros Great cleaning ability, wide cleaning path, makes scrubbing floors a thing of the past.
Cons Dry suction, cleaning the tank, noise level, loss of suction (but easily restored)
Recommended it? Yes

I've had this little gem for about a year now. It keeps my grout looking new! I used a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond and got it for a great price. I don't think you can go wrong with the 20% off coupons!

The pros - the floor mate does a great job at scrubbing my ceramic tile floors... Read full review »

Pros Did clean reasonably well and was easy to use
Cons Did not last long

Three of us had one of these machines. All 3 have broken in the same place withing a few months. Certainly not worth paying $170 + for a machine that lasts less than a year. Read full review »

Pros Definitely cleans the floors and is very lightweight and easy to operate.
Cons Cord unruly. Annoying to rinse containers after every use (but makes sense).

We bought the Floor Mate last night and brought it home to our new, but very old and dirty house. After reading several reviews and seeing that the Floor Mate outperformed the other floor cleaners, we thought we'd give it a try. I am pleased to report it works great! I carefully followed the... If You Have Clean Grout To Start With It's Great, but...

bydazeoff422 Oct 1, 2007

Pros Does pick up a good amount of water on the floor.
Cons Does not clean heavy traffic tile grout that well.
Recommended it? No

Bought the Hoover Floor Mate at Wal-Mart for $137.00 with the intent of cleaning a whole house of tile floors and grout. Found that the scrubber does not put out enough scrubbing action to really clean the heavy traffic areas around around the stove and sink and hallways. Ultimately to really clean... A more love than hate relationship!

Pros Cleans floors with fresh water, vacuums debris as it cleans.
Cons Wish it had a separate scrubbing head for vigorous scrubbing.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had two of these machines. The first model didn't scrub, I now have this scrubbing model. With tile and hardwood floors throughout my house, and no carpet, this has been my best choice so far. Most machines gear towards homes with carpet, which means more bulk and unused features for me.

Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub 500 -- Good, but don't expect excellence

Pros Does clean pretty well, lightweight, easy to assemble/maintain
Cons Price, cleaning after each use, vacuum doesn't suck, solution tank is small and not...
Recommended it? No

I have been very hesitant to purchase the Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub 500 because of the hefty price tag -- $170. $170? This thing is essentially a mop and Hoover wants $170 for it? While I'm all about convenience and ease, I just simply wasn't sure if I could cough up another $170 for an electric... Read full review »

Do you like to mop? Of course you don't. You're reading this review because you are tired of the mopping and the messy water buckets. Which is exactly what I did before making this purchase.

So let me cut to the chase so you can go out and buy one of these things and save yourself the... Read full review »

Not really such a big help

bygo4this Mar 14, 2007

Pros Cleans very well
Cons Time consuming to use, vacuums poorly
Recommended it? No

Since I got 3 kids I figured I should simplify my life with the Hoover Floormate. I hated to carry the heavy water bucket and having a wet floor and dry it on my knees. Well, this is over now but instead I have to carry a heavy machine and have to exchange the water twice for my kitchen (it is a... Read full review »

Pros Hasn't broke yet
Cons Not effective enough
Recommended it? No

It aint bad just not what I expected. I expect it to clean the ceramic tile floor. The scrubbers are not in direct contact or with enough pressure to clean effectively. Perhaps I can alter it to do so. I will have to try eventually because it is just not time effective. I have laid all the ceramic... Read full review »

Pros Sturdy, well-designed, easy to use, cleans well.
Cons Not designed for heavy scrubbing.
Recommended it? Yes

I've have this for several months and use it on my kitchen's tile floor. Bear in mind, though, that this is not designed nor sold as an industrial-strength scrubber. If you have embedded grout dirt you'll have to look elsewhere to get it out. However, for keeping relative clean floors clean (and... Read full review »

Not overly impressed

Pros Clean water cleaning is a plus
Cons Insanely time consuming
Recommended it? No

I just cleaned 1000 sq/ft of tile in about 2? to 3 hours. Typically, it takes me ? hour with a bucket of water and mop. The problem I have with Spin Mate is that it is designed to simulate a vacuum carpet cleaner. Tile cleaning is a monster on its own, which this unit does not have the proper... Read full review »

The Household: 4 dogs, 3 cats, 6 kids.

The dilemma: Due to the dogs coming in and out in our house, and leaving muddy paths, we ripped up the white carpet and put down faux-wood tile. The tile was beautiful, but I soon fell out of love... Read full review »

Pros Easy on the body. More sanitary than using a mop. Cleaning is easy.
Cons Lousy suction and scrubbing.

I was looking for an item like this because I was wanted to replace my old hard floor vac from bissell and I don't like having to keep buying pads for my swiffer. So I figured an all in one machine would be great. The old bissell was not picking up so well so I wanted stronger suction. Not sure... Read full review »

Hoover FloorMate = New Best Mate

bynatashhole Nov 28, 2006
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Leaves tile floors cleaner than a traditional mop and bucket cleaning
Cons Cleaning solution could smell a little more pleasant.

I had initially purchased the Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub 500 because my boyfriend's mother absolutely loved it. After using it once, I am as equally elated. I live in an apartment with 800 square feet of white, ceramic tile. Between the shedding of my long, dark hair strands and clumps of my tiger... Read full review »
