Pros It's silent. Did not smell when first purchased. Saves me money on my heating...
Cons Once in a while I notice a faint "oily" smell. One of the wheels broke.
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased one of these at Rona 3-4 years ago, and it's been one of the best heaters I've ever owned.

Yes, it takes much longer to heat up than the other heating technologies out there. However, once it does heat up, it can maintain that temperature with less effort.

I run this at... Read full review »

Not so hot...

Pros Price
Cons Performance, Construction, Controls
Recommended it? No

I was pretty surprised that no one has reviewed this oil-filled heater. With gas prices still high, I figured these were in high demand. After picking this one up from Target for 39 bucks, I was anxious to see it perform. I already have a Delonghi Dragon w/ the timer (TRDO715T), and it is... Read full review »

Pros There are none for this heater
Cons Very dangerous, cheap China JUNK
Recommended it? No

I have owned several electric heaters and 4 oil filled ones. This Honeywell hz-690 is a piece of junk, and dangerous. Within 90 days it started leaking oil, not much but enough to ruin the carpet. Took it back for replacement and the second one went up in smoke at six months. Luckily I was in the... Read full review »

Pros None
Cons Hot to touch, controls melt after two years, too tipsy
Recommended it? No

I have had this heater for about two years the thing just melted one of the control knobs and was very hot to touch. An oil filled heater shouldn't be this hot to touch. Don't buy it. Its terrible. Read full review »

Smells diesel after one week of use

Pros Good heating.
Cons Smells diesel or oil.
Recommended it? No

It was OK for the first week, than it started to smell like old bulldozer - smell of diesel. Heating was sufficient for a bedroom. Also, it was pretty heavy, 10-15 kg, what means lots of oil inside. But smell, smell is bad. I brought it back to Rona. Read full review »

It smells even after 4 days

Pros Has pretty long power cord.
Cons Heats slow and no way to know the temperature setting.
Recommended it? No

It smells even after 4 days and having it cranked up to maximum for hours thinking there are residues from manufacturing but the smell does not go away. I hope what we smell is not harmful since it was intended for my 6 months old baby room to raise the temperature few degrees above the rest of the... Read full review »

Pros Great fire hazard for your home.
Cons Always develops LEAKS ! Cheap construction, noisy thermostat, etc.
Recommended it? No

I bought two HZ-690 from a store, and one from another store — total of three (3). All these three units started leaking oil, between 6 and 18 months of use !!! I have been lucky that I noticed it every time, but it did ruin one floor (warranty does not help for that). Maybe a class-action... Read full review »
