A wonderful small car, not even that small!
The 1997 Honda Civic 4 door is a comfortable, peppy small car to drive, that really doesn’t feel that small. This report is based on a Canadian-spec EX model, with 4 speed automatic.
Our first Honda was a 1984 Accord. The 1997 Civic is actually longer, wider, with more horsepower...

Fun, Economical, Perfect 1st Car
I put over 206,000 miles on my Honda Civic DX 4 door sedan. It has been on a cross country trip to California and back. Very dependable and cheap on gas. Ample highway power cruises at 70 mph. Engine noise is a little loud. My car was totaled five years ago and I continued to drive it until I... Read full review »
Reliable small car, but no frills
Ive owned my Honda Civic LX for two years now. It is a pretty good economy car, although thats all it is a good way to get from point A to point B. There are a few things Id change, but all of these I knew when I bought it so they are all livable.
What I like about...

Overall great vehicle
I've managed to average 23 miles per gallon in this vehicle, up to 29 miles per gallon on one occasion. This car is greatly expandable: Tossed an aftermarket stereo in there, mounted amplifiers comfortably under the seat, the subwoofers *just* fit in the trunk, and the speaker grilles pop right off... Not Reliable
At 35,000 miles the drivers side window went off track, repared it, broke, repared it, window shattered while driving, repared it, broke. Whenever I have the car services they put the window down regardless of what i tell them, and its stuck down until I can spend $200 to fix it. Cost thus far:... Read full review »
Great gas saver!
If you're in the market for a used car, you can't look past a Honda Civic. My dad owned a 1997 Honda Civic CX Hatchback. He drove it everyday to and from work, about 40 miles, and I also used to drive it a fair amount. He had the car until about 2000, when he traded it in for a Honda Odyssey, but I... Excellent Car
Bought this car brand new. Sedan EX with moonroof, AC, power locks, windows and mirrors, 5-speed. Excellent gas mileage in town or highway. Had some trouble at times with power, going up hills or trying to speed up. Rotors had to be trimmed quite often. Traded it in 2002 with 42,000 miles and only... Read full review »
The Best Friend a New Driver Could Have!
Mine was a '97 Coupe EX, Silver with Black interior and Moonroof, automatic everything. It was the love of my life, my first car with the best sound system I have ever heard in any car even up to date.
My Mother and Grandmother surprised me with it for my 17th birthday some 9 years ago...

97 Honda Civic EX 1.6 L VTEC
At 16 years old, my first car was a 97 Honda Civic EX. I have to say that I loved it thoroughly. Or should I say STILL love it.
At 76,000 miles, it is 6 years old and still runnin' strong.
This is a perfect car for a student: Great on gas; no shortage of parts or people who can work...

7 years, 75,000 miles: GREAT car
I bought my 1997 Honda Civic EX brand new from the dealership. Seven years and 75,000 miles later, this car is still a great deal. I take it in for oil changes every 3,000 miles. Two problems have occurred since I purchased it:
(1) The driver's side window became jammed and would not...

What a Great Car
When I bought this car, my expectations weren't much above that of a simple economy car with a trendy brand name. But after a few weeks of driving it, I loved it, plain and simple. The suspension is incredible, the car itself handles like a sport or race car, it's a smooth ride, and most 1997... Read full review »
Stay Away From Honda Automatics
You read review after review of these cars and you would get the impression that Honda can do no wrong when it comes to building bullet-proof cars.
My family and friends have had quite alternative experience with the Honda products we have owned since 1978.
First, and universal...

Just Can't be Beat., Hey Dads, great car.
My very first car was a 1987 Honda Civic sedan, I purchased in 1989 for $5000. It had 72,000 miles on it. How it got so many miles on it in two years, I'm not sure. Whether a stroke of luck, or not, I purchased the right car.
Though I did some damage to it by hitting a few deer, and sliding on...

Review of the 1997 Honda Civic 2 Door Coupe.
I purchased this car new in May of 1997. It has given me 60,000 miles of trouble free, happy motoring. The only non-maintenance work that has been done on this car was in the first month when I discovered the A/C was not putting out enough cold...

Ticket Magnet
I figured I might as well write an opinion about my most expensive asset, my car. I bought this car, with help from my parents, on August of 1997. Buying the car was an ordeal. Especially from Honda World in Orange County. The salesman was rude, and the finance officer was a plain jackass. I'm sure... Read full review »
Most Reliable Car
I've had many cars over the last 18 years, this Honda has been the most reliable one I've had. It has never gone for any kinds of repairs, and at 50,000 miles it is still on original brakes, tires, clutch etc.
It is a very expensive car to maintain. For some reason Honda refuses to...

You can't kill this VTEC engine.
I have drove this car for 2 years like a manic and redlined it at 7000 RPM almost every time I get on the road, and this engine does not give up, I still have the same power when I bought it. This is a trouble free car, in the past 2 years I have only spent about $500 in regular maintenance. This... Read full review »
Honda Civic 97ex
My mother purchased this car for me to travel back and forth from school to home. This is 200 mile trip. This car is execellent for travel. Even though it is a two door car there is plenty of room for packing it full. The trunk is spacious also. The engine works well for accelerating and stopping... Read full review »
Virtually Problem-free
The first Honda that I ever purchased was a Prelude, back in 1992 or so. It was one of the most problem-free cars I've owned. When it came time to buy another car in 1997 I decided to head back to the Honda dealership. I really liked the looks and style of the Civic EX, and the price was great,... Read full review »
