Pros Great paper handling, high quality, high volume
Cons None found so far
Recommended it? Yes

As the administrator of a mid-sized network (about 70 computers and 20+ printers), reliability is of the utmost importance. We have 4000/4050's in our high printer traffic areas, and 2100's in the lower traffic areas. All of them are on a LAN (there's not a parallel cable running to a single... Read full review »

Pros Excellent value, quiet, reliable. Very good quality output.
Cons none (in use since late 2000)
Recommended it? Yes

The 4000 series printers are great. I manage about 5 of them in public and private computer labs and offices at a university. Original setup was simple, even though the network software. The printer has had no failures of any kind, no paper jams and only the expected dirty prints when the toner is... Read full review »

Pros Fast and Reliable
Cons occasional problems with the print job not being sent
Recommended it? Yes

The HP 4050 is the best printer you can get for your money spent. My library has five and they work great. About 1000 pages get printed everyday a machine. Its supposed to have a duty cycle of 65,000 pages a month, but ours never reach that number. Let me get into the good and bad about this... Read full review »

Pros great long lasting printer
Cons hassles with toner smudiging
Recommended it? Yes

I have had five years experience using this printer with mechanical failure. The printer has printed on average 300-400 pages a day for the last five years.

The printer would suffice as the main blank paper printer for an office of 20 - 30 employees or would be ideal in a classroom... Read full review »

Pros Quality of Image, Ease of Use
Cons Need to buy extra paper tray to hold an entire ream
Recommended it? Yes

We've had this printer in the office for about a year. It rarely jams, although jams are pretty difficult to clear when they happen, the messages on the read-out are not easy to follow compared to other machines.

The quality of the image is very good. We are spoiled by having a Xerox... Read full review »

Pros Fast, excellent connectivity, light on tonner
Cons Always at least one printer down (unexplained "jams" and "paper outs")
Recommended it? Yes

This is the defacto standard printer in most businesses and schools. We had at least 6 printers or more per lab back where I studied, a few at my old job, and a few more now in my current office.

If it's popular, it must be good, right?
Eh...sorta. When they work, it spits out pages... Read full review »

Pros quick to print, paper usually doesn't suffer 'crinkle effect'
Cons not a color printer

The HP LaserJet 4050 has been a great success in my office, yet part of me wonders if this printer is performing well because my office has been split in half. Let me explain.

We moved to a new location, and the space we occupied was sufficient for the 25 in the office. With the move, we... Read full review »

For B&W printing in a letter or legal format, this printer can't be beat.

It's quick, it's reliable, and the cartridges last quite a long time. The setup on your computer is simple, the printer is easily networked using a JetDirect card, and you can get various options like additional... Read full review »

I Have several of these printers that are used in somewhat of an industrial atmosphere and they stand by themselves.

Pros Relatively quick, durable
Cons Not cheap, slow with graphics, occassionally jams
Recommended it? Yes

I used to work as a computer repair technician at a college campus, which used a bunch of HP laser printers. Of all the printers I worked with, the LaserJet 4050 was my favorite. They took constant student (and worker!) abuse, and rarely broke down.

I've seen these printers dropped off of... Read full review »
