I found no Pros to this product. Unless you count dust collecting!
Out your money & time and still using markers to label your disks!
The Bottom Line:
Wouldn't buy it again and can't take it back!
Bought this HP dvd557s 07/20/2010. Was told it would work with a Mac or PC. Main reason for purchase was the LightScribe capabilities. It will reconcnize any disk you put in it, but will not burn in LightScribe. Keep getting an error message that it dosen't see any disk. You think you're going crazy taking the disk out time and again to make sure is put in correctly and restarting the program or the machine or both. It will not burn! Connected it the my Mac G4, after installing all required software there. New error message says there is a communication problem with the drive. Strange put a music CD in the drive and it automatically launched iTunes. Put a DVD in the drive and it automatically launched DVD player (movie plays very choppy) and yet it still won't burn in LightScribe. So much for plug and play. So much for LightScribe and so much for HP. OH, and about that plug and play. It's USB powered. Comes with a Y plug, incase it needs more power than it gets from one USB port you can use 2! This little wire is very short when you look at how it's plugged in. You can get a max of 6 inches from the USB port, but have fun finding a place on the desk where weight of the open drive dosen't cause it to fall off or it sets at a slanted angle because you don't have enough cord.
