Vital for finance and academic life
I study economics, and the first thing that I made was buy my 12c, its very easy to use, and handle all financial and statistics functions to start in this world. The commands are intuitive and easy to remember later. There is not doubt that is the best ever financial calculator in 80s and 90s, and... Read full review »
HP 12C algebraic mode and '=' sign
I don't know how all the previous reviews missed this but you can choose either Algebraic or RPN and the HP 12C does have an = sign (it's on the enter key). The manual which comes with the HP 12C gives examples in both RPN and Algebraic modes.
My profession is that of a Licensed...

HP12C Financial Calculator
If you are an MBA student or would like to pretend to be one, then the HP12C Financial Calculator is the one for you. You are almost looked down upon in school and the finance industry if you don't own one of these puppies. This seems to be a pretty great calculator. If you can figure out how to... Excellent RPN calc. - Much nicer than 33S
Well, I bit the bullet and bought a 12C from Samson Cables. This particular version was the Platinum Anniversary Edition. My rationale for purchasing it was that I have worn out several calculators in my day job, and I was not going to move to a TI or AOS calculator if I could at all help it.

HP 12C calculator is all you'll ever need for finances
The Hewlett Packard HP 12C is a complete financial calculator that figures everything from simple percentages to complicated return on investment calculations. It is a powerhouse contained in a shirt pocket calculator(with a nice stylish simulated leather black case).
I tried my hand at...

Still the best Fin Calculator
I used this calculation for my MBA program (2004-2005) while everyone else in the class was using Excel. This calculator took me through two accounting classes and three financial analysis classes. Forget the RPN verses algebratic input, you'll get past that 10 minutes after reading the manual (uh... Read full review »
The PC Age has passed it by. So, why do I keep it?
I've had this calculator for at least 20 years, since the aftermarket little instruction book, which was newly published when I bought it, is copyright 1985. I couldn't find any production date on the calculator, but it's possible that I acquired it when I was in grad school (graduated in 1983)... Read full review »
A tool everyone should own
I currently work for a finance company which offers anywhere from small unsecured loans up to a full home refinance option. I have extensive use of the HP12c and am very happy with its performance and how practical it is to use each day.
Even with being dated, the calculator performs well...

HP 12c Rocks
This is a fairly simple but standard calculator used for basic financial stuff like NPV and time value of money. It will save you thousands on your next mortgage and probably that much on your next car deal if you just figure how to compute interest, which is succinctly documented on the back side... Hewlett Packard 12c: It Gets the Job Done, but it's a Little Outdated
Making financial computations is quick and simple if you have the appropriate electronic device to help with the task. In the days before specialized calculators, students and professionals had to write out long formulas by hand, input the numbers, and then manually make the calculation. There also... Excellent calculator. The standard in the industry.
This calculator is THE calculator to buy, without exception, if you are a finance professional, be it investment banker, management consultant, venture capitalist, bond trader, whatever.
Learn how to use the reverse polish notation. It's useful. For example, with RPN it's quite easy to...

THE Standard Calculator for Finance Professionals
The Hewlett Packard HP 12C calculator has been in production for over twenty years. Over that period, it has become the most popular calculator for finance professionals. While not the most powerful of calculators--the HP 17 and 19 series both eclipse it, among others--its ease of use and... Read full review »
financial businessman rates industry standard calculator
I am a mortgage broker. I have worked at 3 different mortgage companies and I have seen many trainees learn calculations with this calculator. It is a mortgage industry standard. I bought one for myself about a year and a half ago.
I am now looking for a better calculator. I have several...

My second HP
This calculator is my second HP. I bought the 12C based on my experience with the 11C at college years ago. I think this product is indestructable. My only complaint is that the changed the battery to a wimpy watch battery that has trouble in cold weather but it still works flawlessly.

I Cant Use It....Imagine That
OK, so I drop my PreMed major. Well, it dropped me actually. I kinda failed Chemistry and Calculus, the first two required classes. So, I took that as a hint and moved on. Now, I am a Finance major. At one of the top 20 biz schools in the US (mom, dad...arent you proud?) I show up to my first... Read full review »
"High Priced" 12C
The 12C is HP's best-selling calculator, possibly the most successful calculator ever. It was first sold about two decades ago and the electronics have never been upgraded. The display uses 7 segment LEDs to show each digit, whereas the newer HPs use 35 segment LEDs. At least one upside of this is... Read full review »
A good workhorse
I have had my HP-12C for a week now and I'm happy that I selected it over the other financial calculators. First off, I know that some people do not like RPN; however, once you learn how RPN works it makes sense. My first calculator used RPN (many years ago) and yes it did take a bit of time to... Great Financial Calculator
I first bought this calculator since I was entering the financial services industry. I've found that it has great functionality with basic functions such as calculating NPV, annuities, and cash flows. It also takes into account original programs that the user may want to develop. In other words the... Read full review »
It's y2k compliant!
About a year ago, I got the responsibility to test all the office appliances for y2k compliance. SEC ruled that everything (including microwaves, phones and wrist watches) had to be tested. We even had to have backup people to start working if a couple of coworkers got killed in the chaos that was... Read full review »
Figure This One Out and NASA Will Hire You
Do the words Rocket Science mean anything to you? I doubt it, but maybe they should since figuring out how to use the HP-12C is significantly more difficult than anything taught in the advanced Rocket Science class I took (alright, I never took Rocket Science, but...). The HP-12C is, however, quite... Read full review »
