So far it's Head & Shoulders above the rest for relieving dry scalp

Pros Unisex scent; relieves much of the itch; reasonably priced; hair color doesn't fade with use
Cons Doesn't condition; doesn't provide complete prevention
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I will certainly continue to purchase this shampoo until I find something that (hopefully) prevents the dryness entirely.
I've always had a slightly dry scalp with a few flakes showing up now and then, but lately it's become much worse. Whatever the reason, I began experiencing an increasingly annoying itch. That had to go, and the first product I thought of was Head & Shoulders. Little did I know there were so many options these days. Thankfully, the decision didn't end up being too difficult once my eyes rested on the bottle that read Dry Scalp Care. That was coming home with me.

What it Says

* Head & Shoulders HydraZinc formula relieves scalp dryness, itch, irritation and helps prevent flakes

* With moisturizers, it soothes the scalp while cleaning and conditioning hair

* ph balanced for everyday use - even for permed or color-treated hair

My Experience

The scent of this shampoo is a welcome change from some of the more floral ones that are on the market. The best I can come to describing it is sort of like fresh cucumber melon. It's easily a unisex scent.

The milky white shampoo is a little more runny than what I'm used to, and took a bit of scrubbing before it got a medium lather to it. It rinsed out cleanly, but I didn't get the feeling of there being any conditioning to it at all. I definitely had to use my conditioner afterward, or it seemed as though I would be facing some serious tangles and frizz. When I can't run my fingers through my hair and have it feel silky smooth after rinsing it, I know it needs extra conditioning.

As for scalp relief . . . it has lessened it greatly. Most of the time, I don't notice any dryness or itching, but occasionally I do still experience it even after just washing. The directions say that for best results, you should use at least twice a week. It also states that for maximum dandruff control it should be used every time you shampoo. I normally like to wash my hair every other day, but I have found that if I don't use this shampoo every day the dryness and itchiness come back sooner. It's definitely a good moisturizer for my scalp. I just wish it would completely prevent the problem.

Long-term use has shown that there is no indication that my hair color fades any quicker using this shampoo than not, so that claim seems to ring true.

My 14.2 ounce bottle cost $4.99 at the local Meijer store which is a very reasonable price in comparison to its competition. At that price, and for the relief it does give me, I will certainly continue to purchase this shampoo until I find something that (hopefully) prevents the dryness entirely.
