Neil Young's Harvest: Worth a listen if you haven't heard it in awhile
I don't know what possessed me to take this one out and listen to it the other day. Maybe it was because it had been a few years. Or maybe I was searching for a Jesse Winchester album and this one fell out.
The bottom line: I'd forgotten just how good this album is.
I was always...

"I Only Harvest Some," Sings Neil Young, and For My iPod I Have to Agree
With the number one song, "Heart of Gold," tucked in his hip pocket, Neil Young was all set to become a superstar. But in his own words "this song put me in the middle of the road. Travelling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch." I think that statement could be expanded to include... Read full review »
Overrated? ............... yes
(Disclaimer: Those looking for a brief description of the album will find what they’re looking for in the "Review Body" section. The section titled "Track Reviews" is meant only for those who want to read detailed descriptions of the songs, and they do not constitute the essence of this... Read full review »
Harvest still Neil's finest surround sound album
This is a review I originally wrote in February of 2004. I have reposted it, because there is now a seperate category for DVD-Audios. (my original review was bunched in with the regular CD reviews, and DVD audio is definitely not regular CD). The old review is gone, so if you want to read about... Read full review »
After the Gold Rush came the Harvest.
Harvest is one of Neil Young's mellower albums, in his pre-"Godfather of Grunge" days, when he seemed to be bordering on country, yet retaining certain elements contained in a rock album. Though primarily famous for containing "Heart of Gold", Neil's only song to hit number one on the billboard... Read full review »
Where's the Neil Young of my Generation?
One night, I was bored, and my parents had gone out to eat, I was going through my Dad's CD collection, and I saw this album, and I took it out, thinking "Who's Neil Young?" and then I listened to it...
The sounds of simple guitar and harmonica filled my ears as the opening song "Out on...

Hints at country paradise...
The best songs on here are so good that I almost forget how bad the rest is. Almost. "Heart Of Gold" was Young's only major hit, and it's well-deserved: a pretty, introspective acoustic ballad; the title track is in the same vein, and it's even prettier and even better; "Out On The Weekend" rounds... Beauty for melancholia, subtitled "Pain for pleasure."
Neil Young's Harvest is one of THOSE albums--- easily accessible, yet emotionally draining; artistically pure, yet popular. The elder statesman of rock branches-out here, incorporating folkish overtones, a song called "Are You Ready For the Country?," and even dramatic orchestral flourishes into... Read full review »
Old Man Take A Look or All The Harvest Cliches Have Already Been Used
The day my brother left home for University is certainly one of the happiest days of my life, if not the happiest. It's not that I don't appreciate him as a brother, it's just that we couldn't stand each other (and by the way, yes, this is going somewhere; just hold on) and very rarely agreed upon... The man is a genius!
I watched a music documentary last night called 'Walk on By'. This programme covers the history of music and each week features a different style of music. Last nights programme featured the 'rock/country' era of the 60's and 70's and there he was, a classic shot of a young Neil Young, acoustic... Read full review »
Neil Young's Masterpiece
Harvest is a classic from a man almost as well known for his political beliefs as for his folky rock music. Neil Young is a great singer-songwriter. I respect his music as much as I respect the music of other great rockers of the era he released this album?the 1970?s.
Neil Young is an...

A Good Harvest, Indeed
"I think Harvest is probably the finest record I've made," said Neil Young to the New Musical Express, which is a statement that most fans believe today. With a body of work that stretches from 1969 to today, even longer if you include Young's work with other groups, it's a very difficult task...

...And Thou Shalt Be Free (After The Gold Rush, Pt. II)
This review is really a continuation of my last review for Neil Young?s After The Gold Rush; I see Harvest as a continuation of that album. I broke the review up for each album to make it a little clearer. If you want to get my thoughts on Neil Young as an artist, it?s all in the earlier review; I... Read full review »
Don';t write this one off as old Hippie music
I?d have to say that this is my sentimental favorite release by Neil Young. I was a wee squirt when this album was released (in 1972) and had a very vague idea about what Woodstock or the hippie movement was even about.
I wouldn?t rightly call this hippie music, although the album was...

Are you ready for the kitschy?
Have you ever dived into the water only to discover that it's much, much shallower than it had appeared?
I love Neil Young. Always have. Moreover, I think After the Gold Rush is one of the most wonderful albums I've ever heard. So I was disappointed to hear Harvest, which essentially...

Overrated Neil Young
I have loved these songs for almost 30 years, but I have to say that when I mentally replay the entire Neil Young catalog, "Harvest" does not hold up as one of Neil's top sets, a personal sentiment I would also apply to "Harvest'"s offspring, "Harvest Moon" and "Silver and Gold."
The...

Are You Ready for the Country?
This record established Neil Young as one of the biggest stars of the rock scene. Following the death of Crazy Horse bandmate Danny Whitten, Neil changed direction on this record toward a more acoustic country sound with the Stray Gators, complete with steel guitar. Neil also expands into the... Read full review »
I'm a lot like you
OUT ON THE WEEKEND has got to be one of the 20 or so best Neil Young songs ever, even though it doesn?t get radio play. Oh. Sorry. Few of Neil Young?s great songs get played on the radio. What was I thinking? Okay, follow it with HARVEST. Surely everyone knows that song. No??? What?s wrong with... Read full review »
Harvest (1972)
Neil Young followed up 1970's 'After the Gold Rush' with 'Harvest'. 'Harvest' wasn't as consistent, but the best songs were even better than anything on his previous solo albums.
There's a lot of variety on 'Harvest'. His country-rock-folkie tunes were 'Out On the Weekend', 'Harvest', 'Old...

Classic Neil Young!
"Harvest" is often listed amongst the best twenty or so rock albums of all time and most fans consider it Neil Young's finest achievement (although I myself would give that honor to "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" or "After the Goldrush").
There's no denying that some of Neil's best...
