Pros A terrific gadget for tracking speed, time, distance, heart rate, and calorie count.
Cons Can be bulky on small wrists; control buttons are cumbersome, Garmin Support is poor.
Recommended it? Yes

Much to my excitement, as a Christmas present in 2006, I received a Garmin Forerunner 305. I immediately charged the battery and proceeded to decipher the instruction booklet. I couldn't wait to use it!

For one year I've had a love/hate relationship with this gadget. There were times when... Read full review »

Pros Good reception, accurate, small & lightweight, lots of features
Cons Minimal Mac OS support (more coming)

Please see the update at the bottom of this review. -m

We picked up the 305 for a couple reasons: (1) my trusty old Timex Ironman Speed + Distance system finally died on me, and (2) as one of us is an expectant mother, we wanted something to track heart rate during workouts (primarily... Read full review »

Forerunner 305 Initial Review

Pros GPS accuracy and precision, data recording, heart rate
Cons Grade calculation is useless, software is pretty poor for $300+ product
Recommended it? Yes

I have had my Forerunner 305 for almost 3 weeks now. Previous to this I used a Polar S150 (wired bike mount) for several years and a entry level Polar before that, so I am used to basic heart rate monitor but not advance data recording or GPS.

I have tested the Forerunner 305 running,... Read full review »

I received the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS receiver as a birthday gift in Dec of 2006 (it was on my wishlist), and as of September 18th, 2007, I've run 616.8 miles with it. Approximately. I was hoping it would enable me to reach speed and distance goals in my running, and so far so good! I've gone... Read full review »

Pros The 305 does a LOT of things fairly proficiently, easy-to-read display.
Cons Manufacturer should have made it do half as many things twice as well.

Where did you get this handy gadget?
Having done plenty of sports in my life, I've always treated running as a necessary evil.  In order to play soccer or basketball, you have to be able to run a fair amount.  In order to have a lot of stamina for hockey, you're best off doing some cardio... Read full review »

About Me
I'm a 28 year old male that has been running off and on the last 8 years. I run between 12 and 25 miles a week from spring to early winter. I fall off the bandwagon quite frequently but overall I enjoy running. I also lift weights and play golf.

I purchased the previous iteration (the 301) of Garmin's GPS/Heartrate monitor and was terribly disappointed. Tempted by good reviews, I purchased the 305 from Costco for $159.00.

The Verdict: The 305 actually DOES what the 301 was supposed to do.

The heartrate strap is much... Read full review »

My Background. I have been using GPS tools for a while and I have used them regularly in my training for at least 2 years. My favorite sport activities are inline skating (speedskating, more properly) and downhill skiing. Before purchasing the Forerunner 305 I used the Forerunner 101 for about 2... Read full review »

I didn't realize how lazy I was until I strapped this watch on my wrist. We live in an area measured by kilometers. It is very nice to have a tool to measure miles.
I bought the Forerunner 305 in early April and have used it every run since. It is kind of heavy, and the chest strap isn't as... Read full review »

I decided to upgrade from my Timex Ironman Bodylink setup, although I only had the Timex HRM thus far. Ironically, the Timex Bodylink setup including the HRM, GPS, and Recorder: would have cost more than the Garmin 305!

The 305's HRM is more accurate than the Timex (which was prone to... Read full review »
