Excellent workout tool

Pros So simple to set up and use, you will actually use it
Cons Okay it's bigger than a sport's watch but so much more powerful
Recommended it? Yes

I like this thing quite a lot. I've had it for about three weeks, and have used it on 12 workouts so far. I use it primarily for running, with biking a secondary usage. The main reason I wanted it was for the instantaneous readout of distance, running pace and heart rate, the latter needed for the... Read full review »

Pros The 305 does a LOT of things fairly proficiently, easy-to-read display.
Cons Manufacturer should have made it do half as many things twice as well.
Recommended it? Yes

Where did you get this handy gadget?
Having done plenty of sports in my life, I've always treated running as a necessary evil.  In order to play soccer or basketball, you have to be able to run a fair amount.  In order to have a lot of stamina for hockey, you're best off doing some cardio... Read full review »

I purchased the Forerunner 305 as a replacement for the eTrex, Forerunner 101 and 301, which fell apart from heavy use. I routinely use it during my nightly commute. I use the Auto Lap feature regularly, the Heart Rate Monitor often, and often burn the data to a CD. The battery life is adequate for... Read full review »

I purchased the previous iteration (the 301) of Garmin's GPS/Heartrate monitor and was terribly disappointed. Tempted by good reviews, I purchased the 305 from Costco for $159.00.

The Verdict: The 305 actually DOES what the 301 was supposed to do.

The heartrate strap is much... Read full review »

I decided to upgrade from my Timex Ironman Bodylink setup, although I only had the Timex HRM thus far. Ironically, the Timex Bodylink setup including the HRM, GPS, and Recorder: would have cost more than the Garmin 305!

The 305's HRM is more accurate than the Timex (which was prone to... Read full review »

Cons Bulky. Difficulty acquiring satellites in buildings and trees. Tiny buttons.

I'd read on one of my websites that Amazon was having a major sale on the Garmin Forerunner 305. Since I took up walking as a way to lose weight, I figured I'd give it a shot.

Things I particularly like about the Garmin:

1. I already own a Garmin GPS, so I felt familiar with the... Read full review »

I purchased my Garmin 305 over a year ago. I love this product!

Start Up takes a bit of time but the added info really does help you get accurate information. You have to put in gender & weight. From that they give you general heart rate parameters. If you download the software you can... Read full review »

Pros Feature packed, multi-sport capability.
Cons "Motion Based" is a complete RIP-OFF. Why no Altimeter?

Bought this a month ago and was pretty happy with it, however, as of tonight, it won't power on for some reason(it was just fully charged).

Anyway, it's great for running and biking- but it's I don't know why they didn't put an altimeter on this like they have on the edge.

Pros A terrific gadget for tracking speed, time, distance, heart rate, and calorie count.
Cons Can be bulky on small wrists; control buttons are cumbersome, Garmin Support is poor.

Much to my excitement, as a Christmas present in 2006, I received a Garmin Forerunner 305. I immediately charged the battery and proceeded to decipher the instruction booklet. I couldn't wait to use it!

For one year I've had a love/hate relationship with this gadget. There were times when... Read full review »

Pros Provides good on the spot information.
Cons Weak software. Upgrades are expensive and proprietary. Real cost is substantially more.

First of all - whoever designed their website didn't have the user in mind and whoever approved and accepted the design should be fired. The website is frustrating and difficult to move around or to get information.

2nd: The documentation that comes with the Garmin Forerunner 305 appears... Read full review »
