Pros Keeps excellent track of distances and time
Cons Very slow to load and on the bulky side

Two years ago, I signed up for my first two mud runs, and quickly determined that they wouldn’t be my last.  Along the way, I discovered that mud runs are great motivation to get out and run.  This year, I’m not only training for a 10 mile Tough Mudder, but also my first half... Read full review »

Cons some inconsistency keeping pace

An avid runner, I have found that GPS tools add to the experience greatly.  For several years I had the Garmin Forerunner 101 and loved it.  But all good things must come to an end...and my 101 finally gave up the ghost.  I purchased the 205 as a replacement, and have been delighted... I bought the Garmin Forerunner 205 to help me accurately measure my running distances and paces.  This is a fantastic tool for any runner of any talent: elite, average, or turtle pace.  The buttons are easy to access and press, the screen is large and easy to read, it only takes a... Pros Accurate, a lot of features, rechargeable battery lasts 10 hours.
Cons A little thick, software is not that usefull, side buttons are hard to push.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this watch from the # 1 retailer online for $124.00. I have been using the Garmin forerunner 101 for the last few years, which was bulkey and didn't have the down loadable features.  Overall, I am quite pleased with the device.  It is accurate and doesn't lose the signal like the... Pros Tracks well.  Syncs up with satellites quickly.
Cons Has the ability to destroy capacitors on computer motherboards.
Recommended it? No

Our Garmin Forerunner 205 has damaged two of our computer motherboards after plugging it into a USB port.  This has only happened when the Forerunner was heavily used for a couple hours and needed to be recharged.  The first time it happened I thought it was my fault with having just installed a... My wife and I walk on a set course around our house usually 12 laps. About half way through, we would start loosing count of how many laps we had done. When she got me this watch, I was amazed at how accurate this watch is. We will walk 12 laps and the lap counter will go off within a 3 foot area... Read full review »

Great training tool

bycmrl Oct 30, 2008
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Large, customizable display; backlit;  easy to set up,  built in GPS; shows training...
Cons Fits awkwardly on smaller wrists; mapping display is basically useless
Recommended it? Yes

As a runner, I was constantly going online to map my routes, and syncing up the timer on my iPod to guess my pace and the time of my training runs. Pedometers weren't very accurate and were impossible to set up. The Forerunner takes the guesswork out of training--it's like having a treadmill... Read full review »

Pros theoretically great, lots of cool features
Cons completely useless because distance was inaccurate
Recommended it? No

I tried using this product twice, but had to return it because it was way off. It underestimated the distance I ran by about 10%.

I found this out because according to the Forerunner, I ran my slowest 5K ever. But when I used mapmyrun.com, I found that I actually ran 3.4 miles, instead of... Read full review »

My wife bikes and rollerblades a lot and would use my handheld Lowrance IFinder GO to track her speed and distance. Despite being a pretty reliable GPS (see my review) and all, she found that as it shook with her movement it would become inaccurate (i.e. have gaps in her track or say she went 60mph... Great sport GPS, small, light, and useful!

Pros Small, light, rechargeable, versatile, works great with Garmin training website.
Cons Slightly bulky shape, no map details, calorie count not accurate, training program so-so.
Recommended it? Yes

The Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS is exactly what I was looking for in a sport GPS. Small, light, functional, and easy -- and much more convenient than my old Garmin 12 brick!

I enjoy trail running, and I wanted to be able to track what I was doing a little better. I already owned a Garmin... Read full review »
