Pros Small, light, feature rich
Cons Small display, joystick control can be twitchy, slow to acquire, no external antenna...
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this as my first GPS unit. My father owns a StreetPilot, which is MUCH larger, but has an easier (in my mind) user interface and larger display.

The Legend is ultra-small, and because of that it's missing some of the more common features found in larger units. It's a bit slow to... Read full review »

Pros Small, good resolution, WAAS capable
Cons None that I've noticed as of this writing

With much trepidation, I finally jumped into the GPS realm with this unit. I had many fears of hard-to-follow instructions and disappointing results. To my pleasant surprise, Garmin came through with flying colors with the eTrex Legend.

It's small, but has a comparatively high number of... Read full review »

Pros It has more features than I can use
Cons The maps get a little cluttered in urban areas
Recommended it? Yes

Until I got this unit I had owned a Magellan. It was a second generation generic GPS.
At the time it was a pretty advanced unit (1996). It was finally time to upgrade and the
options of the newer GPS units took a bit of education.
I wanted a GARMIN specifically because of the maps on... Read full review »

Pros Amazing array of features. Small, light, and durable. Superb for road trips and flying.
Cons Only Garmin brand software can be used to load maps.
Recommended it? Yes

I recently upgraded from a plain-vanilla Etrex because I wanted something that had mapping features. What an amazing device!

This unit is incredibly useful whether you use it for hiking, driving or flying. I've used it for all three activities and it's performed magnificently.

July 2001 I decided to take the plung and get a gps. My requirements were that it must be able to load up maps and must have built in memory. After much research I decided on the Garmin Etrex Legend.

This GPS has more features than a person knows what to do with. The blue case is very... Read full review »

Pros Light, small, easy to learn how to use.
Cons No external antenna, base map is out of date, mapping software is expensive.
Recommended it? Yes

When I was first in the market for a hand held GPS unit, this one was just emerging on the market. I had decided to try it out and was very happy with my decision. Not only was it easy to use, the learning curve was very small. I was able to take it out of the box and right away start using it to... Read full review »

Pros Loaded with great features. Easy to use.
Cons Sometimes slow to acquire signal.
Recommended it? Yes

The Garmin eTrex legend is everything that they advertised - and more. While it has more built-in features than most people will normally need, it is incredibly easy to learn to use and all the controls are just where you'd want them.
I have used my Legend for about 3 months and, while it... Read full review »

Recommended it? Yes

For men, who have a genetic coding that precludes actions like, say, pulling over to ask for directions, and encourages behaviors such as, say, playing with electronic gadgets and wandering into the woods, this little device called the Garmin eTrex Legend could be the missing link. However, this... Read full review »
