Pros A wealth of features and options
Cons Line-of-sight communications with satellites required.
Recommended it? Yes

How Cool Is This Thing? Very Cool! Cool as Barrow, Alaska in February. No hiker, boater, traveler or "gadget-geek" should be without one.

The Legend is the mid to high-end model of the Garmin Etrex series of GPS receivers. As such, it has many additional features that the basic model... Read full review »

Pros Maps can be downloaded easily with software, great functions, batteries last a long time
Cons User interface is hard to use, sometimes hard to acquire satellite signals
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the Garmin Etrex Legend a week ago from Amazon.com for $150 (after a $50 rebate). I have been very satisfied with this GPS ever since I first used it. Being an amateur, have never used a GPS before. But the Etrex Legend proved easy to use and I learned to use most of its functions quickly... Read full review »

Pros Compact and easy to use.
Cons Some of the updates make use difficult at first.
Recommended it? Yes

Have had mine for about 2 years now and I really like it. It has a "joystick" on the face that make use a bit easier on the move. I used it at first primarily as a Military GPS while in the infantry. I was fairly accurate to the Military GPS pluggers. But size comparison is no match. This GPS is... Read full review »

Pros Great unit for the cost, very compact!
Cons basemap isn't great, small antenna
Recommended it? Yes

Wow, a few years ago a mapping GPS cost over $350 and was so big you had to mount it on a dash or boat console. Here's a unit that fits in your pocket and costs (after rebate) less than $150!
Perfect for Kayaking, hiking, geocaching(www.geocaching.com), cycling...or even driving. This unit... Read full review »

Pros Very compact, fine detailed screen, good lock.
Cons Base map can be crude. Locking can be slow. Needs a color display.
Recommended it? Yes

This is my first GPS and I have been using it for about 4 months now, both with and without MetroGuide USA installed. Most of my use has been in my car.

First, I have been very happy with this unit. I have found it to work quite reliably, with good battery life in battery saver mode... Read full review »

Pros Clear screen, great maps and well laid out menus make this an excellent GPS.
Cons Lanyard is on the wrong end. When hanging the antenna points at the ground.
Recommended it? Yes

A great GPS, but it has trouble picking up a signal unless it has a clear shot at the sky. Never have picked up WAAS signal in Pacific Northwest. It really needs an external antenna connection. (Hint hint Garmin engineers)

Also can't handle being bumped around. If it thumps into my handle... Read full review »

I've bought my Legend to use as a navigational tool for boating, and it served me well during the last year. I have use it as a stand alone unit, and also as a receiver hooked up to a laptop. This particular setup is my favorite while in an unfamiliar area.
The real neat feature is that you... Read full review »

I've owned my Garmin E-Trex Legend for a year. I've used it on several road trips in unfamiliar territory, and countless hiking trips. I've always had it by my side, whether I've needed it or not. It has helped me make critical decisions in my navigation quickly and easily. The interface is a bit... Read full review »

Pros Neat and useful features!
Cons Can be a little costly.
Recommended it? Yes

Okay, okay, so knowing exactly where you are can be useful, but you don't need a GPS (most of the time) to get your general location.

If you do much traveling at all, you may find this to be a very useful tool. This unit contains, among other features, a built in basemap. The basemap... Read full review »

Pros none!
Cons no real customer support (UK)
Recommended it? No

I bought my camo at field and trek at ambleside,UK. after only 2.5 months it developed a fault (the camo just locked and could not be switched on or off). Field and Trek were very unhelpful, as were Garmin (very rude staff at garmin UK). No replacement unit was offered although I asked Field &... Read full review »
