The best overall 400 speed film

bycaptainmarvel May 9, 2004
14 Helpfuls 15 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Excellent color saturation. Fine grain. Cheaper than Kodak film.
Cons Color saturation may be too much for some (greens and reds especially).
Recommended it? Yes

I've been using Fuji film for a long time now and I've never been disappointed by the quality of the prints I get. Fuji Superia X-TRA 400 is the one film you can always fall back on no matter what. I've tried Kodak films (and products) over the years and have been consistently let down by the... Read full review »

Pros Very fine grain for its speed, bright colors, convenient and inexpensive 1 hour...
Cons Some over-saturation of brighter primary colors.
Recommended it? Yes

Fuji Superia X-tra 400 may just well be the best consumer ISO 400 speed film available on the market today. It possesses all of the characteristics that are inherent within the entire Fuji line of films and delivers great photos at a bargain. What more could you ask for?

12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros sharpness, contrast, color saturation, versatility, price
Cons none
Recommended it? Yes

I don't know when was the first time I picked this film off the store rack, but I always thank my lucky stars I did. It has become my go-to film for every occasion, and it is endlessly reliable. I'm not a professional photographer, or anyone remotely resembling an expert, but I burn through at... Read full review »

Take This Film Out And SHOOT IT!

bybntowen Oct 8, 2002
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros use this film as well as amateurs, not contrasty, excellent skin tones, wow!
Cons At 400 speed? Zero, zip, nada, nichts...you get the picture (sorry)
Recommended it? Yes

There were photographer axioms I learned twenty years ago. Here are a few:

1. Money up front.
2. You can't take a bad picture of a kid and a puppy.
3. Avoid the "Ten Tacky Poses" when photographing a
model.
(Watch any Madonna video for a visual on that one)
4. No... Read full review »

Great Everyday Film

byhaspelbein Aug 4, 2002
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Can't beat the price, enlarges quite nicely, nice exposure range
Cons If you enlarge the picture, you may still notice a little bit of grain
Recommended it? Yes

Why did I choose this film ?
Experimenting with close-up and macro photography, I was looking for a fast film with a lot of contrast. And since I was (am) still experimenting, it shouldn't break the bank, either.
Havening read a glowing review of Fuji's Velvia slide film, I thought I'd... Read full review »

sharp, cheap, buy anywhere- what more do you want?

byiggypop Oct 8, 2001
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros cheapest consumer 400 negative print film very sharp saturated primary colors
Cons shadow detail a little grainy not as smooth color gradations
Recommended it? Yes

If you need a quite a bit of speed in your film because of your slow SLR zoom lens or your mega zoom compact camera, then Superia 400 fits the bill quite perfectly. It is cheap, the results are sharp, and you can find it almost anywhere. Most blurry pictures are the result of camera shake and with... Read full review »

Updated opinion...

After reading other opinions on camera film on this site, I thought I should update my opinion on the Superia X-TRA 400.

What I loved about this film was how alive it made my prints seem. The rich, vibrant colors were sharp and clear, and none of the prints... Read full review »
