Pros Very entertaining. Great cast and acting.
Cons Similar to other movies. Unoriginal plot.
Recommended it? Yes

This opinion reveals the plot of the movie and the ending. If you don't want to know, don't read please, I'd hate to ruin it for you.

The Faculty is a rarely successful combination of science fiction and horror. I have seen this movie compared to teen slasher flicks such as Scream and I... Read full review »

Pros Characters, Jordana ;-)
Cons Kind of stupid
Recommended it? Yes

I?ve really begun to question why I liked this movie; I mean it?s everything I hate about a movie. Stupid plot that for some reason I found cool in this movie, even though I was well aware that it?s premise was stupid. Aliens, I usually dislike most movies that have stupid alien forces, not all... Pros Fun plot, cast, ample character development, soundtrack
Cons Too predictable, not the least bit scary, slight inconsistencies
Recommended it? Yes

Taking place in Herrington High School, the faculty are behaving in some bizarre ways. Two students Casey(Elijah Wood) and Delilah(Jordana Brewster) witness an attack on a staff member by two teachers. Convinced that something is going on, the two students along with several of their classmates... Read full review »

Pros Great tongue-in-cheek fun
Cons Far too many snide asides, and Rodriguez's hand is a little unsure at times.

The conversation must have been pretty straightforward ?Kev? said the Miramax exec ?we need another lazy hit. What have you got for us??
?Well? pondered Kevin Williamson (for it was he) ?I?m a bit dried up at the mo, what with Dawson?s Creek and the Scream sequels taking up most of my time... Read full review »

Derivative, Contradictory Fun!

Pros Enjoyable
Cons Mediocre on so many levels
Recommended it? No

Before Kevin Williamson came along, could anyone other than film geeks/freaks name a living, working screenwriter? Williamson's name on a movie?s credits (sometimes above the title) is a signal to teenagers that they?re in for some post-Gen X irony?his screenplays presume everyone born after 1980... Pros decent acting, good soundtrack, a few tense moments
Cons More holes than a fisherman's net in this plot, incredibly unbelievable ending
Recommended it? Yes

You know, growing up, I remember thinking that a few of the kids at my high school (and quite a few of the teachers) could have been from another planet. I mean, who else could have been responsible for that big hair thing?

Robert Rodriguez directs The Faculty, a sort of Invasion of the... Read full review »

"The Faculty" is another one of those popular teen movies that are popular now. And like the many others, this movie delivers great entertainment. THE FACULTY

The one-two punch of Robert Rodriguez directing and Kevin Williamson screenwriting gave me some rather high hopes on this Puppet Masters/Body Snatchers takeoff. Thankfully I was not let down, as the combination works out well from beginning to end. A high school in Ohio... Read full review »

Questions pondered during The Faculty: (all apologies to Roger Ebert, whose Halloween: H20 review inspired this piece)

*Why do all (or, at least, most) Kevin Williamson scripts begin the same way?
That is, with an extended set piece that ends with a murder, usually of a recognizable... Read full review »

The Back Door

Pros Good acting; some of Williamson's best writing; good special effects; not Oscar...
Cons Not scientifically engaging; not exactly Oscar material

Ohio is the back door to alien invasion -- I loved it!! Ohio isn't exactly know for it's entertainment. We have Drew Carey, 3rd Rock from the Sun, 98 degrees and Katie Holmes. Not much more from Hollywood starts off in the Midwest. I was proud that my home state was the setting for this witty,... Read full review »

The Faculty [Blu-ray]

Okay, you knew everyone in high school was just a little different: everyone looked at you strangely, the teachers were freaky, and you never could find the right groove to fit into. What if it turned out that it was all because your school was inhabited by creepy aliens from outer space? That's the enjoyably cheesy B-premise for this fun and scary flick from the pen of Scream's Kevin Williamson, the master of the post-modern teen horror film. Directed by Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi), it's The Breakfast Club meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers, as six disparate students from Herrington High School band together when they discover that an alien life form is invading both the student and faculty bodies, with plans to take over the world. Each of the heroes represents a different high school type: popular babe (Jordana Brewster), picked-on geek (Elijah Wood), goth girl (Clea DuVall), sensitive jock (Shawn Hatosy), new kid in town (Laura Harris), and bad-boy rebel (Josh Hartnett). The plot isn't much--a basic kill-or-be-killed premise spiked with a healthy shot of paranoia--but Willliamson and Rodriguez do a great job of building the tension slowly but surely. The suspense set pieces are genuinely frightening, and the film pokes fun at itself without deflating its scares; Williamson is a master at shifting gears from comedy to horror quickly and adroitly. The young cast doesn't have a weak link among them (with special kudos to Wood, DuVall and heartthrob-in-the- making Hartnett), and Rodriguez gets maximum mileage from the titular faculty, which includes Jon Stewart, Piper Laurie, Salma Hayek, Bebe Neuwirth, and Robert Patrick of Terminator 2. Go to the head of the class, Mr. Williamson. --Mark Englehart
