Dry Cleaning is Cheaper Than This Thing

Pros Beautiful box.  Long cord.
Cons Everything else.  Yet another ultra-expensive Chinese piece of crap.
Recommended it? No

I too was suckered in by the slick box, hefty weight, and (formerly good) Shark brand.  We were careful to use only distilled water to avoid hard water deposits and clogging of the steam pores.  Even so, I had to manually squirt everything because the highest setting barely did... As my title reads, and as apparently everything in the store reads; this iron was Made in China.

After our 25 year old Black & Decker Self-minding iron that was purchased used at a garage sale in 1984 quit working my mother sauntered off to Cheap-o-world and bought an $8 iron to finish her... Read full review »

Pros Steam Powerhouse, Steams Vertically. Large Water Reservoir
Cons Will not steam automatically on Wool/Silk  or Nylon settings.. Uses standby power.
Recommended it? Yes

Why all the dismal reviews for this iron? It certainly doesn't seem to be as bad as people are making it out to be on here.

Overview: What sold me on this iron was its proclaimed steaming power.  I wanted to try something new. I usually buy the Black and Decker brand. One of these days... Read full review »

Pros Easy to Use, Good Value, Quality Construction
Cons Heavy
Recommended it? Yes

When my $100 wedding gift Rowenta iron died after about 8 years of use, I wanted something that worked as well but didn't cost more than $50.  I spent about $50 at Kohl's to get a Shark Xtended Steam iron and I've been happy with it.  I've had it almost a year and it has been doing a good... Pros long pivot cord, even dependable heat with all fabrics, burst-of-steam feature
Cons none so far
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the Euro-Pro Shark G1490 Professional Electronic Iron about six months ago after my son borrowed my old dollar store iron and never returned it.  I had only paid ten dollars for the old iron but it had lasted me over five years so I figured I'd gotten my money out of it.  When it was clear... Dissatisfied with my Shark. I believe this Shark died way too early.

Pros Beautiful iron. High wattage. This iron seem to have gotten hotter than some I've...
Cons Not worth the price!  Cord is way too long. Cord keeps getting twisted.
Recommended it? No

I bought this iron not even 2 years ago.  I liked this iron, because it ironed my clothes really well, unlike other irons.  I wanted an iron that really gets hot.  From day one it didn't produce a burst of steam like the box said it would.  The silver paint on the handle peeled.  The iron leaks... Pros It looks cool.
Cons Pours water from the vents. Won't always heat up then turns itself off...
Recommended it? No

I wish I had read these reviews before buying this iron. I bought because it looked cool and I thought "what can go wrong with an iron?" Boy was I wrong. It worked great for about 3 weeks then everything went wrong. It pours hot water from the steam vents at random times. Many times it won't even... Read full review »

Just not worth getting excited because it WILL stop working. weighs too much and does tip easily. I thought I was buying the be all iron. Woops. NOT. The marketing is pro but the product is not. Would never recommend this iron. It heated well at first and then all of a sudden nothing at all. It did... Read full review »

Pros Looks good on your shelf in your laundry room
Cons Expensive, stains fabric

This product is a piece of crap. We bought this iron 2 months ago to replace a broken but still functioning Black & Decker (I dropped it). Today, the Shark ruined my mother-in-law's hand made curtains for my baby's nursery. It sprayed brown goo all over the place and permanently stained the... Read full review »

Pros The Price Seems Right. Light and Maneuverable.
Cons Unreliable. Subject To Quality Issues. Flimsy.

I myself have owned a couple of the Euro-Pro irons. Mine second one just broke this morning for no reason I can determine. It was just a couple of months old. Te first one broke after it fell off of the ironing board onto a carpeted floor. My sister's Rowenta falls all of the time onto her linoleum... Read full review »

Thermostat Problem

Pros Looks great.
Cons Don't consider this a long term purchase since it will quickly fail.

Without any forewarning the iron got extremely hot and burned a hole through the dress that was being ironed. I question the safety of an iron in which the thermostat doesn't work well. Read full review »

It is indeed a piece of junk

Pros Looks good. Long cord. Heavy weight seems to indicate high-quality.
Cons Stops working. Takes forever to heat up. Ridiculously expensive for what you get.
Recommended it? No

I'm afraid this review won't add anything to the debate. This iron is a piece of junk. I see that mine lasted longer than most -- three years -- before giving up the ghost. But it's been a painful three years.

From Day One, it's been very difficult to fill the iron with water. The filler... Read full review »

Not a good iron.

Pros Pretty.
Cons Stops working. Five months.
Recommended it? No

Apparently we have the same experience as everyone else. Paid extra for what we thought was a nicer iron. Now, after five months, it stopped working. I found a short in the cord and have asked Shark for a replacement cord but am sure it won't be available or will cost as much as the iron. I'm now... Read full review »

Shark Euro Steam Iron

It was with great pleasure that I watched the Shark being compressed by our Garbage Truck today. This piece of garbage has stained its last piece of clothing at our house. I have had to wash more clothing since I purchased this iron due to staining drips than I dare to count. The iron went out... Read full review »

Shark Iron -- auto shut off shuts off all the time

bysgrowney Jul 30, 2007
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Looks Great
Cons Doesn't work
Recommended it? No

I wish I had looked at epinions before I bought this iron.

I liked the styling and I have a Shark floor steamer that works great. The auto shut off on the iron kicks in after the documented 7 minutes and no amount of "gently rocking back and forth" will turn it back on. If you unplug/plug... Read full review »

worse iron I ever owned

Pros Powerful steam burst. Best iron I ever owned until it just STOPPED WORKING!
Cons Not reliable. Stops working without any warning.

Nice looking, heavy duty iron. Has steam and spray buttons that are easy to access with the touch of the thumb. I purchased my irons from a local Target store. Owned the first Shark iron for about 6 months. Light comes on, but it never worked again. Bought another one. Stopped working after about 3... Read full review »

It only looks good.

Pros Looks great, adjustable steam, great self-cleaning feature.
Cons Didn't work for long, cord hard to place, hard to put water in the iron
Recommended it? No

I wish I had read the other epinions before purchasing this product. It worked well while it lasted but it did not last long. The cord now has a short and the spray button has fallen off. My new rule is to never spend more than $19.99 plus tax for any iron.

I have emailed Shark. Let's see... Read full review »

Fancy looking outside, shoddy parts inside

byswatson99 Mar 6, 2007
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Pretty stainless steel, fancy looking lights
Cons Tips over easily, hard to fill, quits working, doesn't steam well, cheaply made
Recommended it? No

Quite literally the only thing this iron has going for it is the 'fancy' stainless look and it's long cord. Even that doesn't last. It's sole plate scratches easily and gets a grungy dingy coating on it after a short time using it.

Iron cord wraps around bottom of base which is kind of a... Read full review »
