Exceptional earphones - ER-6i's provide the best sound for mid-priced Canalphones

Pros Awesome sound quality and accuracy. Great canalphones for $US150 or A$200. Available...
Cons Fidelity not up to ER-4S or Shure E4c. Expensive for the casual listener
Recommended it? Yes

I've had many earphones over the years, from the humble Sennheiser MX400's and Sony EX71's to the more expensive Etymotics.

But I've been wanting a pair of earphones I can travel with - not a $400 pair but something a little bit cheaper but still sounds exceptional. That's where the... Read full review »

Pros Great isolation, amazing resolution, super portable
Cons Not as satisfying/real as "big" headphone sound, can distort, hard to fit, look...
Recommended it? Yes

Having only read positive reviews of these headphones, I had to give them a try. When I got them out of the package, I had great expectations. However, my first impressions were very disappointing.

First impressions :(

The the ear tips that ship on the phones were too loose or... Read full review »

Not just for iPods

Pros Superb sonics, small package, complete kit, lightweight
Cons Price, getting used to its in ear location, cleaning, learning curve to insert properly
Recommended it? Yes

[ After over 3 weeks, I'm in love with these phones. I've gotten used to wearing them, I forget they are there. I'm now sensitized to the nuances of its quality, I can clearly hear the effects of lesser quality phones quickly. I now value them so highly, I treat them like glass, so its been very... Better than any I've (unfortunately) bought before

Pros Better noise canceling effect than the active types & more comfortable.
Cons Slightly lacking in Bass power and no amplifier / volume control.
Recommended it? Yes

I love the ER-6i Headphones. I fly back and forth to Europe at least once a month and so I consider myself an unfortunate expert on noise-canceling headphones that don't work. My most recent pair (for the past year) were the Sony MDR-NC11, but these added a lot of noise whenever you moved the cable... Read full review »

One of the best canalphones in this price range.

Pros very good notch detail, balanced sound, decent value compared to other canalphones.
Cons picks up noise from cable, expensive replacement tips and filters, thin cables
Recommended it? Yes

The Etymotic Research ER-6i is an entry level earphone from the company that has made a reputation on audiophile quality earphones. These are "noise isolating" earphones as Shure calls their own product, that is, they block noise up to a remarkable 30+ decibels when fitted correctly. This has the... Read full review »

Pros -irresistible reference sound, accuracy, dynamics, isolation, and comfort -- separates...
Cons -Takes some time to learn to insert and remove canalphones properly.
Recommended it? Yes

(please note that this is a long review. So, grab a drink and relax...)
If you know me from HeadFi, then you know I've been ranting about just how good Grado headphones are, but quiet about comfort and portability. Well, I think I've found my dream headphones, at long last(yeah right- I'm... Read full review »

I Can't Travel (Live) Without Them

Pros Small Compact Size, Great Sound and Sound Cancellation, Not very pricey, Concealed when...
Cons More eartips with initial purchase
Recommended it? Yes

The ER-6 are compact, fit easily in my briefcase or purse and I can use plug them into any commercial airline audio jack. When they are worn, they are very much concealed, no Mickey Mouse over the ear headsets! The sound is great, canceling out the noise within the airline cabin, or when I'm home... Read full review »

ER-6i Excellent Noise Isolation, Wonderful Sound

bykm21 Mar 1, 2005

Pros Amazing - you'll enjoy music and movies on an airplane.
Cons Got to clean them sometimes, slight discomfort.
Recommended it? Yes

The ER-6i is a newer version of the ER-6. It comes in white (to match your iPod), offers more sound isolation (3 rubber rings instead of two) and has slightly higher bass response than the 6.

I have a pair of Sennheiser noise canceling headphones which work wonderfully. But on a noisy... Read full review »
