Given that they are most famous for their Final Fantasy Role-Playing Games, Its an odd thing that Squaresoft would put out a fighter, let alone more than one. But as well as the Straightforward Tobal games, they also put out the 3D roaming fighter Ehgeiz in the late 90s.
Ehrgeiz was at first,... Read full review »

Pros Awesome Graphics, Splendid RPG value, beautiful game play
Cons You have to worry about feeding yourself
Recommended it? Yes

The game Ehrgeiz has all of the elements of a great game. First of all, there is multi-player. You can go head to head in battle against a friend. When doing this, you have a choice between a number of fighters. There are 8 regular fighters in the game. There are also 6 guest fighters.

I was at the video store the other day when I saw a game with Cloud Strife on the cover, the only problem is that it wasn?t final fantasy 7, it was some game called Ehrgieze.

So what is Ehrgieze it's a 3-d fighter game from Square, While Square probably won't be known for it's fighting... Read full review »

Pros The addition of FFVII characters, some of the most surprising graphics for PS
Cons Lacks depth Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, or Tekken has

After Squaresoft's older fighting game, Tobal No.1 and the sequel Tobal No.2, they haven't really returned to the fighting genre since. At that, they announced Ehrgeiz, a fighting game in the essence of Tobal No.1. Ehrgeiz is entirely not much is different from the Tobal series, it's supports 60... Read full review »

Pros Mini-games, hidden secrets, quest mode.
Cons 3D fighting isn't quite done right.

Yes, that's right...INFINITE experience in Ehrgeiz. They never put a cap on experience or levels, so, you actually can get as much exp as you want...you just have to spend infinite time doing it. Trust me...it'll take you forever. I'll tell the trick down at the bottom, so if you don't want a... Read full review »

Note: I have added more info and detail to this review.

Another Note: Most important parts are in bold.

Face the EHRGEIZ and see if you can win. Well, you may be able to beat the !@#$ out of your opponents in EHRGEIZ, but chances are there's no other fighting game better than... Read full review »

Pros Characters are good, Quest mode is a nice option
Cons Fighting AI becomes boring, everything becomes boring
Recommended it? No

The main reason I purchased this game was to be amazed. It seemed very cool at the time, it had FF7 players which at that time I had grown to love and, I had money in my pocket. I reluctantly spilled the contents of my coffers onto the counter and took my brand used copy of Ehrgeiz home. Yes, I had... Read full review »

Pros Play as FF7 characters, lots of extras besides arcade mode, simple controls.
Cons Not too much fun by yourself after a while.
Recommended it? Yes

Ehrgeiz's main selling point may be that among the other characters you can play some Final Fantasy 7 favorites. Although there is more to the game than just those characters.

The story behind Ehrgeiz is a tournament for the 'ultimate weapon' a sword called Ehrgeiz. All the characters... Read full review »

Intro:

Ehrgeiz was Dream Factory's (known for the Tobal series and The Bouncer) first arcade game. Ehrgeiz borrows heavily from Tobal's fighting engine yet includes new ideas that might or might not work depending on your taste.

Pros Sweet Graphics, Sweet Play, High Replay Value!
Cons Not enough gil in RPG-A mode... :D
Recommended it? Yes

Wow. This game is definitely sweet. I've played a lot of fighters, I've hated a lot of fighters. I knew Square had this in the works. :)
I mean, Remember Tobal #1 ? Tobal #2 ?
Square was just getting their feet wet in the 3D world. Oh, and yes, they were practicing for what could be called... Read full review »

Ehrgeiz

Editorial Review With a fighting mode, four mini-games, and a stand-alone role-playing game (RPG), Ehrgeiz is essentially six games for the price of one. First, duke it out as one of 10 playable characters (3 of which are from the popular RPG Final Fantasy VII) in hand-to-hand and weapons-based combat. There are 11 different fighting environments to tackle, including a moving train and a hovering airship. Ehrgeiz scores points for diversity. The arsenal of warriors is comprised of various ages, nationalities, and sexes--all of whom are eager to win the ultimate fighting championship. The prize is a mysterious weapon (the strangely dubbed Ehrgeiz). There are a gazillion moves to memorize, and the fluid movement and fantastic secret weapons provide great eye candy. In addition to fighting, players will also encounter mini-games, such as the foot race "Battle Beach" and strategy game "Battle Panel" (think Othello). This game also contains several elements that will be instantly familiar to RPG fans. Ehrgeiz may not satisfy gamers who want a dedicated RPG or fighting game, but it does offer a diverse range of gameplay for the casual gamer with a limited attention span
