Room for improvement, but beautiful in baby's room!

The Bottom Line:
A good choice for beauty when it comes to bassinets. Could be improved, but can't most everything?
I have never understood buying a brand new bassinet. Your baby only uses it for a couple of weeks and then he starts to roll over or "jump out"! That was what I thought until I was expecting myself, then it had to be all new stuff that matched! Crazy me…
I chose Eddie Bauer for a lot of my larger purchases. Everything looks modern with hints of traditional and the "look" is beautiful. I was told I was having a boy, but just in case I wanted some things that could be unisex and the covering on this bassinet is beige and cream with a little teddy bear. It is called "B" is for Bear.
This covering isn't lacy and "bassinet" looking. It is straight lines and tailored looking, which is the exact look I was going for! The light colored wood shows and the size of the bassinet, I think, I larger than your standard bassinet.
Assembly is one thing I can't comment on, because I was too big to help, although I do not recall him cursing as he worked.
With all of that, here are my pros and cons of the Eddie Bauer Musical Rocking Bassinet
Pros…
***The Eddie Bauer Musical Rocking Bassinet now comes in Cherry and "natural" wood. It also comes in a couple of different coverings now for the bed and the canopy (seen in lace in picture above). We bought ours over two years ago, so if these options were available then, we weren't aware of it.
***There is a tray under the bed for storage, that really helps in the middle of the night when you are half asleep and don't want to search for wipes, a diaper, etc. You can change a diaper right there.
***The wheels on the legs. Bassinet to go…the wheels are a wonderful feature. If you want baby in the same room as you and he is sleeping, you can just wheel him wherever
you are. I even wheeled him in the kitchen at times when I was prepping to cook dinner.
***The bassinet also has locking clips at both ends for safety, as well as locking wheels.
***Large piece of furniture. Not like one of those weenie bassinets. This is like a piece furniture in your home, so make sure you have the room for it. Because of its size, you can use the bassinet longer than "normal" sized bassinets. I wouldn't necessarily at night, but during the day for naps was good for us.
***The music is OK…Not great, but it will do. It has five settings, volume control and a timer which is a great plus if you do decide to use the music very much.
***The rocking motion sooths baby! Even mine!
***The canopy can either be raised to make shade for baby or lay back for a full view of baby.
***I had a c-section and sitting on the edge of the bed or the couch I was a good distance away from the baby to as comfortably as I could pick him up without standing up. This was because of the height of the bassinet and the depth of it as well. It was very good for me.
Cons…
***There isn't an easy way to clean all pieces of the cloth that surrounds the bassinet. I only washed the sheet and the bottom tray liner. You have to take the bed apart to get all pieces off. It is machine washable, IF you can get it in the washing machine!
***Although the cradle portion locks, it is not completely still. This was never a problem for us, because we do not have any bigger children or large animals. I can see where this could be an issue.
***The Eddie Bauer Musical Rocking Bassinet, at the time we bought it, was the most expensive bassinet that Babies R Us carried. That is NOT why we bought it…That just happened to be the case at $149.
***The mattress is thin, but we had already decided to purchase a thicker one for our babies comfort. I am not sure how many bassinets come with a great mattress.
Being our first child, it was nice to be able to buy, for us, a safe and stylish bassinet for our baby. We had tons of company and tons of complements. As I later found out, our Pack N Play was really useful as a bassinet as well. It was a "bassinet/changing table" on the top and play yard on the bottom. That one piece of furniture could have sufficed our needs, BUT I am glad we had the Eddie Bauer Musical Rocking Bassinet for our little man. The memories of watching him are wonderful.
