Pros Excellent customer service, good software, once fixed it works reliably
Cons Issues with my unit, no wrist strap for runners
Recommended it? Yes

One year ago, as a reward to myself for completing my first century, I purchased a Garmin Edge 305 for my bike. Prior to my purchase, I had been using a basic cycle computer and a Polar heart rate monitor and watch to track my speed and heart rate. I wanted the Garmin to track my routes, my... Pros Simple to operate; light weight; lots of data on any one ride
Cons Poor mount design, permanent battery
Recommended it? Yes

To be fair, I've only had the Edge 305 for a little over a year. The model I have came with a heart rate monitor and cadence sensor. So far I haven't found much I don't like about it. The operation of the unit is surprisingly intuitive and the manual (available in pdf online) is very clearly... Read full review »

Pros Sensitive receiver, small, lightweight, does the job designed for well.
Cons Included software isn't the best. No keylock. Limited GPS navigation.

Overview

I'd been looking for a GPS device for a while now and picked the Edge 305 for a number of reasons:

- I mainly want to log where I mountain bike, often places where there are no defined trails.
- Elevation accuracy is important (this unit has a barometric sensor)... Read full review »

Pros tons of info
Cons unreliable

My disappointing Edge 305.

When I first heard of the Edge 305 and all it could do I was amazed!! As an avid road and competitive mountain biker the functions available on the edge 305 seemed to be just what I needed. My wife surprised me with on for Christmas 2006.

My excitement... Read full review »

Pros Awsome unit for tracking your rides.
Cons Garmin tries to rip you off by making you pay $12 a month
Recommended it? Yes

Got the Edge so I track the miles I rack up my bike, and my heartrate- I like to keep it around 200 or so. The Edge does all that, and it even has a backlight.

The included mount is pretty lame- I had to weld together out of #2 bar stock. It added 8 ounces to my handlebars. I don't care... Read full review »

Pros Cool looking graphs.
Cons Way to much money for what I need.
Recommended it? No

When I bought this very expensive system, I was under the belief that I could run and track three separate bikes. I immediately sent in for two more cadence/speed pickups, for another $230 dollars. First, when they came, they would not interface with the Garmin unit. I sent an E-mail to Garmin, per... Read full review »

Pros - Easy to read. Easy to use. Keeps a long history.
Cons - Poor rubber plug for the mini-USB port
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my 305 for a couple of years now and have had no problems with the electronic function of the unit. I am a road cyclist and average about 50-75 miles per week.

The unit appears to be quite watertight, as I've trained in the cold, rain, and sleet in the intermountain west... Read full review »

Pros Just a wonderful training tool, worth every penny!
Cons Does take some time to familiarize yourself with the operation.

This is perhaps the best purchase I have made for my working out next to only my bike itself! I saw one review here stating that it won't keep track of total miles, but apparently he doesn't know how to use it as it does this without any issue for me. I have the model with the speed, cadence and... Read full review »

Heart rate works only 50% of the time, at best

Pros Customizable screen.
Cons HRM doesn't work; poor tech support. Software crashes.
Recommended it? No

I do like the unit but mostly purchased it to keep track of my hear rate. Garmin includes a little piece of paper saying exotic fabrics, when vibrating, can cause the hear rate monitor to not work properly. The paper should have stated "all fabrics can cause the heart rate monitor to give bad... Read full review »
