In love with my Dyson at first....
I've had my Dyson canister for 2 years and can give an honest opinion as the "novelty" has worn off.

I must say out of the box the Dyson looked somewhat cheap in quality compared to my Miele. However, when I turned the Dyson on and... Read full review »

We bought this Dyson on the recommendation of a friend. We’ve had it for almost two years now and have no real complaints to speak of.
The canister style means less back work and more maneuverability than a full upright. The wand can be extended from about two feet to five feet pretty... Read full review »

Simply fantastic vacuum. Power cord WAAAYYYY to short. Cheap plastic for a $400 vacuum may lead to issues in the future. BEST suction ever..horrid smell if you wash canister.

We have all hardwood floors in the house and the floor attachment is superb. This thing picks up EVERYTHING and... Read full review »

Pros Quiet. No bags! No clumsy filters! Compact.
Cons Wand is very large in diameter. Canister fills quickly. Expensive
Recommended it? Yes

I have a woodworking shop in our basement. While my dust collector collects the fine dust from each tool, it does not get the dust /shavings from my drill press or lathe or the dust that falls on the floor.

I have had shop vacs and while they do a good job, they SCREAM and the filter can... Read full review »

I regret buying the Dyson stowaway!

Cons Poor suction
Short cord
weak cord reel
poor on board tool...

It should have been named the Dyson Throw-away.The designer claims it does not loose suction, this maybe true but it really doesn't have much suction to begin with so it doesn't have much to loose.

The power head storage position was poorly designed as it scrapes along the floor when the... Read full review »

I go through vacuums like most people go through a pair of jeans. I am a vacuum fiend and go over my floors every other day due to having two dogs that shed. I have another Dyson, but wanted one that could do steps and could get under furniture easily. I had been looking around and got a chance to... Read full review »

I waited to review this product for a month as I had a kenmnore elite canister and loved it.with all the animal hair in my house I was a bag user and was tired of buying new bags. I can't say that I'm happy with my Dyson. I had a Miele canister vacuum cleaner before and wish I had stayed with the brand. The chic design of the Dyson got me.

Here are my main issues:

It doesn't maneuver well. It takes quite a bit of effort to pull the heavy canister along... Read full review »

The Dyson DC21 Canister is absolutely the best carpet sweeping experience I've every had.

My wife and I felt our old Kenmore canister was pretty good, but this new Dyson canister shows how little we know.

The bagless collection bin was completely full after just one use and in... Read full review »

Unbelievable Performance. I, too, saw the Consumer Reports articles and was going to go with their recommendations and get the Electrolux or the Kenmore. Thanks to you all, I found the Electrolux had major wiring issues and the Kenmore, while less expensive, had cheap plastic connectors that tend... Read full review »

Pros Amazing suction, compact design, clear bin to see when its full, 5 year warranty
Cons The cord shorter than I would like
Recommended it? Yes

You will be blown away with how much this vacuum picks up when you try it. It actually makes me a little sick to think how much dirt and dust is sitting in the carpet. As someone with allergies, I feel good knowing that the Dyson is really able to clean the carpets thoroughly and expels clean air... Read full review »

Good suction VERY POOR design and engineering

byproception Jan 12, 2008
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good suction
Cons Very short cord, overall poor design
Recommended it? No

Dyson knows how to build a vacuum that can really pull the dirt out, but has failed on all other accounts. The cord is so short that you have to plug it in three to four times on one level of the house. The head is so cumbersome that it is very difficult to vacuum the stairs. The cord retract is so... It does suck!

Pros It has powerful suction and it shoots out clean air from the exhaust.
Cons None yet.

And it sucks in a great way! We have an English Mastiff weighing in at 200 pounds and loves to lay out and shed on our floors. Need I say more? I personally like canister vacuums instead of uprights. We had received the Bissell Digital Pro vacuum thinking that it would be great for the pooch... Read full review »

Quiet Dyson wins me over

Pros Compact, Amazing Suction, Super Quiet, Fair Price
Cons Short Cord, Plasticy Kink-prone Hose, Cryptic Manual

Excellent power for a reasonable price compared to other vacuums with lesser qualities. I was amazed (yes amazed) what was in the dirt cup (sorry Dyson, I didn't call it the Clear Bin™...if that's the Clear Bin, then what is the thing with holes with the yellow cover called?).

The perfect vacuum for hard floors and small spaces, pet owners

bycatsnhorses Oct 7, 2007
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros great suction, no bags or filters to purchase, versatile, convenient, good for hard floors
Cons expensive

We recently decided to buy our first "real" vacuum. Tired of buying cheapies only to have them break or stop picking up dirt and cat hair (we have 3 cats) after less than a year, we decided to get something better even if it meant a lot more expensive. A HEPA filter was my condition because of my... Read full review »

Pros Amazing suction - Leaves the room smelling fresh and clean. Best vacuum on the market.
Cons Wish the owners manual had words instead of pictures

I have heard so much about this vacuum, so I had very high expectations. I was debating whether or not to buy this model or the Ball animal DC 15. I went to a local Sears to actually try them out. Any Dyson vacuum you get, you can't go wrong with - its just a matter of personal taste. I personally... Read full review »

Cons Emptying bin is not as mess-free as with other Dysons. Cord could be longer.

I never really had any complaints about my old Electrolux canister vacuum, which I got used from my mom several years ago for the cost of repairing it -- $35. In fact I thought my vacuum was actually pretty good. After running it a half dozen times or so the bag fills up, so I know it's still... Read full review »
