No Substitute for the Original
The Henri-Georges Clouzot original of Diabolique is hard to beat. When it was remade a few years ago starring Sharon Stone and Isabella Adjani, the remake went way over the top and perhaps unintentionally reminded me of everything that was good about the original movie.

truly diabolic
The french film adaptation of the book Les Diaboliques, by Boileau-Narcejac, definitely fits its title.
