I have a 1600N I love it
I have a small company and i rebuild the toner cartridges for this printer and i use it for faxing testing scanning it has never failed me its fine with USB and Eithernet... nothing but good things to say here.... lasersavings@comcast.net Read full review »
Better check the Dell Support forum first
I like the fax features, USB and network hookup, not sure how scanning compares with the best. More bells and whistles than I needed but are there if needed. Print quality seems perfect. Toner cartridges seem to go fast at normal settings. Except for paper jams this would have been the perfect... Read full review »
Reliable printer
Our business now has 6 of these, in various departments. Nice when we need network printing, faxing, and light-duty copying all in one machine. Overall, very pleased. Don't use the scanning function in most departments, so can't speak to that.
But, no complaints from any of the departments...

Dell 1600n - Poor Choice
Our small office had a leased machine with the "same" functionality, the contract was up and I checked into the Dell 1600n. Faint print in dark setting. Forces toner replacement when computer decides its time.
I am very disappointed with the Dell 1600n. The copy/print quality is unacceptable. You must always select the dark mode when copying or printing, and when you come back to use the machine again, it always defaults back to the normal print setting. Poor quality - after 6 months of use -- got "unlock scanner" problem
It's a cheap multi-function laser printer with lots of features. But the manufacturing quality is poor and it's a bit noisy.
