For being as expensive as these things are and from such a reputable brand, I would think there would be more bells and whistles attached. You can probably get the same experience from a 25 dollar brand as you would the Cuisinart, but what you are getting in return are bragging rights, credit card debt, and a bigger oven. It's also a pretty nice machine to look at despite the entire counter space it takes up just housing the darn thing. But, because it looks so fancy, I have done away with toasters completely and I only use this for all my toasting needs now.
