Cuisinart 77-10 Chef's Classic Stainless-Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set: Great Cooking at a Low Price!
Well built quality cookware at a very moderate price.
The Bottom Line:
Great cookware at a low price!
A couple of years ago, I picked up a set of the 10 piece 77-10 Chef's Classic Stainless Steel Cookware by Cuisinart for a great price of $100. More recently, I was able to pick up the same set for my son for less than that. If you're shopping for a set of pots and pans, you know that the market is flooded with sets of pots and pans that range in price from really cheap to outrageous! In the $100 price range, this basic set from Cuisinart rates as a "Best Buy".
OK...here's what the set includes:
Classic cookware made of mirror finish stainless steel
8- and 10-inch skillets
1-1/2- and 3-quart covered saucepans
3-1/2-quart sauté pan
8-quart covered stockpot
Solid, riveted handles, aluminum in base for even heating
Safe for dishwasher, freezer, broiler, and oven to 550 degrees F
These are just nice basic pots and pans without any nonstick finish to wear out or chip. The mirror finish stainless steel material is attractive to look at, and the quality of construction is very good. The riveted handles really are very sturdy. In addition, these pots and pans and others in the same series are available as open stock, so there are many options for expanding the set to meet your cooking needs. We have purchased the Cuisinart 725-30D Chef's Classic Stainless 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Dome Cover and would consider it a pretty essential item for most cooks.
So far, our use of this cookware has been on a glass top electric range. My son is using them with a gas stove, and since he is also very happy with their cooking performance, I thought it fair to mention. Before discussing our experience with the cookware, I'll share with you my opinion of nonstick finishes. For certain cooking tasks, such as cooking eggs and pancakes, I do prefer nonstick frying pans or griddles. But for most cooking tasks, having cookware without a nonstick finish meets our needs. If I were to purchase a set of nonstick cookware, I'd certainly want to find high quality cookware that would (hopefully) have nonstick surfaces that wouldn't wear out long before they should and the cost would be far greater than the cost of this Cuisinart set.
In use, this cookware set has been a pleasure to use. The stainless steel encased aluminum bottoms provide adequate heat distribution while providing a stainless steel surface that is easy to clean. Most of the time, detergent and water is all that is needed. When needed, the surfaces can be cleaned with a stainless steel pad. The lids fit nicely and are also designed for easy cleaning. As a point of information, while we aren't "gourmet" cooks, my wife and I cook most of our meals. Yes, we do eat some meals at restaurants, but we are more "traditional" in the sense that we cook and eat at home.
The bottom line is that the Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Steel Cookware is a great balance of quality and affordable price. For basic cooking needs, I recommend them highly and look for great prices. Even the open stock items go on sale for very affordable prices. Augment this cookware with a couple of high quality nonstick frying pans and a good Dutch oven and you'll have a pretty good arsenal of cookware!
Thanks for reading my review, and if I can answer any questions, I'll be glad to do so.
