Pros The grates are made of a coated cast iron; which makes it easy to clean.
Cons A connector hose is needed to hook it up to a larger propane tank.
Recommended it? Yes

I have gone camping for years and I have always had a small portable stove, but as the family grew it was getting harder to cook a meal.  I knew I needed a bigger grill but the full sized ones just were too hard to take on the road. Then I found the Coleman Roadtrip Gas Grill LXE. It was a... Read full review »

Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill LXE is a Superior Gas Stove

Pros Study, durable, well designed, high heat output portable gas stove.
Cons Need to buy the case to make carrying and travel convenient.
Recommended it? Yes

It would be better and more accurate to call this “grill” a “portable gas stove,” and a great one at that. We bought our Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill LXE after frustration with a similar product made by Thermos, the “Thermos Grill2Go Gas Grill, branded... Read full review »

Pros Easy to Use, Quality Construction, Durable
Cons Heavy
Recommended it? Yes

The Coleman Roadtrip Grill is great for use all the time. The grill plates are easy to clean with soap and water, and the stainless steel is very easy to wipe down. It seems to burn very hot, so you have to be careful not to burn your food. This grill is also great for taking along camping or... Read full review »

Great Portable Grilling for a Small Family

bygamblin_man Jan 17, 2009

Pros Portable, even heat control
Cons Hard to clean
Recommended it? Yes

Before we moved out west we had a large classy grill and a two barrel smoker. We left those behind with our children. We did take our Bradley Smoker with us, but sometimes it just seems right to toss a steak or a burger on a hot flame and grill it to deliciousness.

We had seen the Coleman... Read full review »

So when I got engaged and my parents got me a grill for Christmas I knew that they had him in mind. I am so glad however that they did because I absolutely love this grill. We live in an apartment with a small back deck and this grill is perfect for us. It is lightweight and can be raised or used... Read full review »

Pros Two Powerful burners. Slide Out work tables. Folds into cart with wheels.
Cons None.
Recommended it? Yes

I spent hours researching portable gas grills looking for good heat, features, ease of use, and portability. Then I gave my wife the link and told her that's what I wanted for Christmas. Good wife that she was, she ordered it for me. Wow! Coleman did a really good job designing this grill. It's a... Read full review »

More like a bastardized camp stove than an actual BBQ grill

bysdgrossman1 Sep 6, 2007
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Looks nice out of the box
Cons Poor design from every angle!
Recommended it? No

Wanted a grill that I could use both in our back yard, as well as for camping.

Unfortunately, the scene where I knocked into the display model and sent it flying in the store should have had a bit of foreshadowing for me.

You can't really call it a grill, since you cook on flat... Read full review »

Pros sturdy and portable

I'm a charcoal grill person myself, but there are times when I could use a gas grill. Portablility and storage are major issues for me, so I was really impressed when I saw this grill in action last year.

I read the reviews of the other portalbe grills and decided this was the best for my... Read full review »

Great Little Propane Grill

17 Helpfuls 18 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros folds down, wheels, cooks evenly, easy to light
Cons shallow lid, plastic wheels, heavy

The Coleman Roadtrip LXE Grill is a nice "portable" sized propane grill that can fold down to a compact size with wheels and a pull handle. The grill comes with an adapter for 16.4 oz propane bottles but an adapter is available to be purchased separately to accommodate larger propane tanks. The... Read full review »

Pros Setup is a snap, cooks well, heats up fast, nice grates
Cons Not very portable, cannot cook with lid down, grill falls apart when you roll it.

I recently purchased the Coleman RoadTrip LXE grill for tailgating at football games. Overall it's got lots of power and cooks very well but it has it's drawbacks.

The good:

The grill is very easy to set up. It came almost fully assembled and all I needed to do was attach the... Read full review »

I have had my RoadTrip grill for over a year now and find it to be an excellent portable grill

I bought my grill to use for camping and to use for BBQ at home. Works very well for both. I also ordered the optional griddle and burners which work nicely.

I always use external... Read full review »

Great small grill! - My first gas experience

Pros Small, (2) 10,000 BTU burners, easy to move, nice grilled flavor, side tables
Cons Grates hard to clean, limited area exposed to flame
Recommended it? Yes

Previously, I've only owned those little cheap charcoal grills but I decided to take on a new path and try gas. I was searching for a simple, small but good quality grill that I can store in the garage. I compared the Roadtrip to the Weber Q & Baby Q and went with the Coleman because it was cheaper... Not pleased with the RoadTrip LXE

byoinkbot Sep 9, 2005
2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to operate. Cooks well. Heats up fast.
Cons Flimsy plastic handle. A bit rickety unless on a smooth flat surface.
Recommended it? No

I bought this grill the other day and used it for the first time last night at the NFL kickoff in Foxboro. When I went to unfold it to stand it up, the flimsy plastic handle, that also doubles as one of the feet, broke off. I was not in a situation to just not use it so I took out the broken piece... Coleman LXE is not a "Barbe-que Grill"

bystarbucking Jul 18, 2005
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Quality product, sharp looking, easy to assemble.
Cons Not a barbeque grill. Meat tasted fried not grilled with no smoky deep cooked flavor.
Recommended it? No

For those of you looking for the typical grill with charcoal below and a closeable lid for that great smoky barbeque taste, think twice about the Coleman LXE. Our old grill was a gas grill with a layer of charcoal briquettes between the gas jets and the open grill above with a lid that could be... Read full review »

Best grill I've used in years!

byalfmeister Jun 13, 2005
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Heats up fast. Easy to clean and to store. Quality components.
Cons The hose adapter should be standard equipment.
Recommended it? No

After six years I disposed of this grill. I'm sorry to have to confess that my initial enthusiasm was misplaced. The burners corroded and it became impossible to get the grill hot. The burners are too small to heat up the thick grates so it would take longer and longer to get the grill hot... Read full review »

Nice Portable Grill for the Price

bybrown27 Jun 7, 2005
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Price, convenience, big enough for a home grill, small enough for a portable grill.
Cons Gets very hot, food will stick if not careful, can't cook with lid down.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this grill for camping and for home use. We went through many portable gas grills and also several large grills. I felt the Coleman Roadtrip LXE would be the perfect answer. I bought it for my husband for Father's Day but had to give it to him early so we could try it out. I set it up... Read full review »
