Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Receiver: Very Cool Device, But.....
With spring coming I am sure a lot of people are ready to get out and start a walking or running program. You want to know how far you went and how many calories you burned, right? You want to know if one route is the same distance as another route. You may want to know if you are going as fast... Read full review »
Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Receiver: Worth the Cost to Track Your Performance?
I have always used some method to try to track my performance while working out. Almost all of my workouts are performed outside and it is not always easy to determine how far or fast I have covered the territory. I have used numerous pedometers, but they always seem to freeze up or the batteries... Read full review »
FORERUNNER 301: The ultimate tracking device?
The Garmin Forerunner 301 is the latest gadgetry in fitness accessories. Heart rate monitors (HRM) like the ones from Polar are common these days. Garmin offered until recently everything but heart rate. With the 301 the GPS based Forerunner (101 or 201) got married with a chest strap HRM. It's the... Read full review »
Garmin 201: Don't Leave Home Without It!
Let me start by saying, I'm not one for gadgets. I'm not good at them, and frankly, I don't need them. So I was not particularly excited when my husband bought me this device for my birthday. I am an avid runner, but was always happy with a pair of sneakers and a bottle of water.
Now, I...

Garmin Forerunner 201/Excellent Training Tool
The Garmin Forerunner is an excellent training tool for all outdoor runners, inline skaters and cyclists. Using the 12 GPS satellites orbiting the earth, it uses triangulation to keep exact track of your position, speed, distance traveled etc. This isn't like one of those useless pedometers that... Exactly what I wanted
Wanted something simple to track how far I walk/jog on various residential streets around my house. This is perfect! Strong GPS signal (although it doesn't work indoors, so can't use for tracking indoor distance - i.e. walking around house, mall). I only use the time, average speed, and total... Read full review »
Just the thing for bike rides
I have used the Forerunner 301 for some time to record my bike rides. I use the Auto Lap function (Training Assistant menu) frequently. Marking waypoints is rather slow. Getting there from "time of day" requires a minimum of 5 keystrokes. The heart rate monitor is an excellent addition, although it... Read full review »
Git 'R Done
The Garmin Forerunner 301 gets the job done. Plain and simple. My wife bought me this for Christmas last year and I have worn it on every run since. I just hit 900 miles since Dec.26. I am in the middle of training for my 4th marathon in December in Honolulu. I love the pace readings and the... Read full review »
Ditto Previous 2 Reviews
I have been using the Garmin 301 since June-05 on almost all my training runs. I have not been too disappointed in the GPS tracking system. I ran a marathon recently that started in the city. I thought the FR301 wasn't going to lock onto a satellite before the race started because of the high... Read full review »
Great for any level of runner
***UPDATES ARE AVALIABLE AT THE END OF THIS REVIEW:
The Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Receiver is the perfect running companion when you finally get tired or running indoors, on a treadmill, or when it's just too nice to be inside.
Just last night I was running along Caesar's Bay in...

Garmin Forerunner 201 Waterproof Running GPS
Finally, an alternative to awkward pedometers and cycling computers. The Forerunner 201 offers athletes an easy-to-read display and integrated GPS satellite receiver that provides precise speed, distance, and pace data--all in one compact unit that straps to your wrist. It’s a lightweight, accurate training assistant with performance tracking, auto-lap, auto-pause and more. And because it is a high quality Garmin GPS device, you get many of the features GPS users have come to rely on, such as precise latitude, longitude, altitude data. The Forerunner 201 is easy to use right out of the box and delivers the benefits of GPS technology at an affordable price. To please folks who are passionate about their exercise and training, Garmin has added something special to the Forerunner 201 called the Virtual Partner. The feature allows you to set your training goal by configuring your Virtual Partner’s pace and workout distance. You'll get a graphic perspective of your performance by viewing your pace in relation to your Virtual Partner’s pace, so you can always see at a glance if you're keeping up or falling behind. Almost as important as the training device itself are the accessories to integrate it with your active lifestyle. If you're into cycling, the best way to keep an eye on your GPS while you ride is with a bike mount bracket that straps to the handlebars of your bike, motorcycle, or whatever you're traveling with for easy viewing. Other Forerunner 201 features: Mark specific locations, and then look-up and navigate to these points using an electronic map. Retrace your steps to a starting point or reverse your normal route for routine variation. Amount of calories burned can be tracked and calculated over the course of a workout. Lap history--such as lap time, lap distance, and average pace--can be stored for up to two years. Performance data can be automatically archived and calculated to provide an accurate record. Automated stopwatch provides auto-lap and auto-pause features. Lap timer indicates when a certain speed is reached or when you’ve fallen below a pre-set level. Pace whistle sounds alert when you begin traveling slower or faster than your desired pace. Distance whistle sounds when you reach a specified duration or distance in your workout. Download free Garmin software to transfer data from your Forerunner 201 to your PC for storage and analysis.
