Exciting Idea But Did Not Work For Me
I purchased the Forerunner 201 on June 12th from REI and paid $150. With great excitement, I set it up according to instructions, and then set out to measure all of the great runs and bike rides I have been doing for years to see exactly how far all those courses really were!
It has been...

Forerunner 201 Receiver
What a gadget.I can pace myself comfortably and continued to lower my times in the 5K through a half marathon. I brought this product for the purpose of training and self motivation. Now those guessing miles are over as far as running goes. There is nothing to hate about this particular product... Read full review »
Training Incentive!
I have had my Forerunner for nearly one month and absolutely love it! I run 3-4 times a week around Washington DC and have been amazed and inspired by its capabilities. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have not had any trouble receiving a signal, except around tall buildings, for obvious... Read full review »
Great idea, but receiver is too weak
Having experience with a Garmin GPSMAP 12 handheld GPS unit I thought any product built by Garmin would be of highest quality and reliability. I purchased the Forerunner 201 about 1 month ago.
After running on treed streets and bike paths with the Forerunner, I have concluded that it is...

Be Aware: The Garmin Forerunner may not work in all areas. YMMV
I purchased the The Garmin Forerunner 201 after reading many of these reviews. The attributes of this device are well known and have been summarized extremely well by the other reviews on this page (so I won't repeat them again). As a caveat, I only tested this device while running. I did not use... Read full review »
Way Cool!
I was pretty hesitant to purchase this unit because of the cost but decided to take the dive. Absolutely no regrets! This unit works great. It's a bit hard to read all the info from your workouts on the unit itself but the downloadable software (free) that you can get from the site lets you see the... Read full review »
Garmin Forerunner 201/Excellent Training Tool
The Garmin Forerunner is an excellent training tool for all outdoor runners, inline skaters and cyclists. Using the 12 GPS satellites orbiting the earth, it uses triangulation to keep exact track of your position, speed, distance traveled etc. This isn't like one of those useless pedometers that... Outstanding Training Aid
Wow, this thing is awesome. It's great to determine exact distances of your runs and average pace. The GPS signal takes a minute or two to capture after I go outside, so I just start it up and begin my stretches while I wait. I run early in the morning so the continuous backlight option is very... Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Receiver.
What a great new toy for runners, walkers and others in the outdoors. Easy to use for distance, pace, average pace, elevation, history logs, and percent grades.
I did have a little problem getting it to recieve signals but once I told it that it has moved several hundred miles it began to...

Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Receiver: Very Cool Device, But.....
With spring coming I am sure a lot of people are ready to get out and start a walking or running program. You want to know how far you went and how many calories you burned, right? You want to know if one route is the same distance as another route. You may want to know if you are going as fast... Read full review »

Finally, an alternative to awkward pedometers and cycling computers. The Forerunner 201 offers athletes an easy-to-read display and integrated GPS satellite receiver that provides precise speed, distance, and pace data--all in one compact unit that straps to your wrist. It’s a lightweight, accurate training assistant with performance tracking, auto-lap, auto-pause and more. Choose either the 201 model for rechargeable power or the 101 if you prefer to use 2 AAA batteries. The Forerunner 201 is easy to use right out of the box and delivers the benefits of GPS technology at an affordable price. To please folks who are passionate about their exercise and training, Garmin has added something special to the Forerunner 201 called the Virtual Partner. The feature allows you to set your training goal by configuring your Virtual Partner’s pace and workout distance. You'll get a graphic perspective of your performance by viewing your pace in relation to your Virtual Partner’s pace, so you can always see at a glance if you're keeping up or falling behind. Almost as important as the training device itself are the accessories to integrate it with your active lifestyle. If you're into cycling, the best way to keep an eye on your GPS while you ride is with a bike mount bracket that straps to the handlebars of your bike, motorcycle, or whatever you're traveling with for easy viewing. Other Forerunner 201 features: Mark specific locations, and then look-up and navigate to these points using an electronic map. Retrace your steps to a starting point or reverse your normal route for routine variation. Amount of calories burned can be tracked and calculated over the course of a workout. Lap history--such as lap time, lap distance, and average pace--can be stored for up to two years. Performance data can be automatically archived and calculated to provide an accurate record. Automated stopwatch provides auto-lap and auto-pause features. Lap timer indicates when a certain speed is reached or when you’ve fallen below a pre-set level. Pace whistle sounds alert when you begin traveling slower or faster than your desired pace. Distance whistle sounds when you reach a specified duration or distance in your workout. Download free Garmin software to transfer data from your Forerunner 201 to your PC for storage and analysis.
