Good product....for the most part.
I purchased the Forerunner 201 mainly for my wife to aid her in training for a 60km (40 miles) walk to fund Breast Cancer. As she gradually walks more and more each outing, she wanted to know exactly how far she was going, and how fast of pace she was doing.
The day I bought the...

I love it! Extremely happy with it!
I bought it because I wanted a distance/time measuring device that I didn't have to periodically calibrate. I was hesitant because it appears bulky. Actually, it is very light and I got used to it rather quickly-not really bulky after all. It is very easy to read while running, day or night. The... Read full review »
I love it!
I bought my Garmin Forerunner 201 for two reasons: first,I needed help with my pacing (I've run nearly 60 races at distances from 5K through marathon). I also wanted to know how far I've traveled on unmarked roads and trails, and in races. I was less interested in the software and records that it... Read full review »
Great Training Tool
I've had my Forerunner for just about a year. I've used it for almost every run that I've been on and have logged over 600 miles on it.

Great way to track your daily, weekly, annual mileage
I mainly use the Forerunner to track my runs. It is great as a tool to track each...

When it's on, it's on - when it's not, what's the point?!
2006 update: The thing broke after I left it outside in the cold for a few days, b/c I had to do that in order to get a signal active before going running (the alternative is to stand outside, still, in the cold, for 5 minutes, before you start moving). Wouldn't charge properly or anything. Not... Read full review »
Save your money
I've had two Forerunner 201s. The first one lasted only about five months and the second one lasted about nine. For no apparent reason they froze up. When it worked, it was fairly reliable, but something that costs $150 should have a longer life expectancy. Read full review »
Garmin Forerunner 201: Great Idea, but needs more work
Garmin offers a product that many distance athletes have been waiting for. The forerunner 201 comes in a relatively inexpensive, light weight, and easy to use package. I purchased mine for $140.00 from a Marine Corps Exchange only to find it two days later at a Target for $104.95 (Semper Fi!). I... Read full review »
Works great; less weight
I read all the reviews of the Forerunner before I bought mine, and I made the right choice.
I was especially concerned with its ability to work in forests, where trees obstructed a view of the sky. Since I run/bike in a mixed environment (forest, open ground), I expected the Forerunner to...

ForeRunner 201 World's Greatest Pedometer and More
If you are one who, after taking a walk or bike ride, got on your car, retraced the route and guessed how far you had gone (I'm describing myself :-)), you will love to have the Forerunner 201.
The Forerunner 201 is so much more than just a pedometer. It is a serious training device for...

Tracks well, but software, mapping help inadequate
This is a useful device for tracking run/bike speed, times, pace. Very useful. But while Garmin makes it possible to download data from the device, the company offers no help to users who want to map this data. Read full review »

Garmin Forerunner 201 Waterproof Running GPS
Finally, an alternative to awkward pedometers and cycling computers. The Forerunner 201 offers athletes an easy-to-read display and integrated GPS satellite receiver that provides precise speed, distance, and pace data--all in one compact unit that straps to your wrist. It’s a lightweight, accurate training assistant with performance tracking, auto-lap, auto-pause and more. And because it is a high quality Garmin GPS device, you get many of the features GPS users have come to rely on, such as precise latitude, longitude, altitude data. Choose either the 201 model for rechargeable power or the 101 if you prefer to use 2 AAA batteries. The Forerunner 201 is easy to use right out of the box and delivers the benefits of GPS technology at an affordable price. To please folks who are passionate about their exercise and training, Garmin has added something special to the Forerunner 201 called the Virtual Partner. The feature allows you to set your training goal by configuring your Virtual Partner’s pace and workout distance. You'll get a graphic perspective of your performance by viewing your pace in relation to your Virtual Partner’s pace, so you can always see at a glance if you're keeping up or falling behind. Almost as important as the training device itself are the accessories to integrate it with your active lifestyle. If you're into cycling, the best way to keep an eye on your GPS while you ride is with a bike mount bracket that straps to the handlebars of your bike, motorcycle, or whatever you're traveling with for easy viewing. Other Forerunner 201 features: Mark specific locations, and then look-up and navigate to these points using an electronic map. Retrace your steps to a starting point or reverse your normal route for routine variation. Amount of calories burned can be tracked and calculated over the course of a workout. Lap history--such as lap time, lap distance, and average pace--can be stored for up to two years. Performance data can be automatically archived and calculated to provide an accurate record. Automated stopwatch provides auto-lap and auto-pause features. Lap timer indicates when a certain speed is reached or when you’ve fallen below a pre-set level. Pace whistle sounds alert when you begin traveling slower or faster than your desired pace. Distance whistle sounds when you reach a specified duration or distance in your workout. Download free Garmin software to transfer data from your Forerunner 201 to your PC for storage and analysis.
