We’ve had our Canon Powershot S3 IS for about 5-6 years and we’ve shot several thousands of photos with it. Even though it may seem outdated it is still widely traded as used and even sold as new (but not in retail). A used Canon Powershot S3 IS in good condition seems to go for around... Pros Price / Quality of photo / zoom / video capability
Cons Very fragile lens mechanism and Canon customer support

Great camera initially with a great zoom and photo quality. After more than a year or so the camera began to give me Lens Error problems that increased as time went on. I just googled the "E18 Lens Error" problem and identified that an extreme amount of info is available from consumers. Basically,... Read full review »

Pros Enough features to hold your hand as a beginner but turn you loose as a_pro.
Cons One minute movies, RAW format would be nice, the bundled memory card is too small.

Being a man of many hidden talents, I bet you don't know that I also like taking pictures. No, not that kind you perv - but just photography. I started out with taking a class back in college in film and video production - and while my BA is mostly useless, it does mean that I've got a pretty good... Read full review »

Pros Picture quality, audio and video recorder
Cons A memory hog in high quality video format.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this camera in mid 2007 after my little cheap Aiptek stopped working. The Canon S3IS is one heck of an upgrade! It takes great smooth video as well although it is a memory hog when using the highest quality video format (only 6 minutes per gigabyte!).

One feature I absolutely... Read full review »

I bought this camera over a year and a half ago for $500, and it was worth every penny! I started with a Canon A520 and appreciated the ease of use as well as the picture quality, but wanted more mega pixels and features. I have to say, the awesome zoom was one of the features that got my attention... Read full review »

The first time I turned on the camera and took a picture, it went something like this...[power on sound], zoom..."oh wow...zoom back out...", beep beep...click...pure joy. The picture of the airplane I shot dumping fire retardant on a wildland fire was phenomenal. The clarity, contrast, and zoom of... Read full review »

After weeks and weeks of reading product reviews on different websites, I settled on this model based on: The fact that the flash was easy to turn off and that I could take it easily off of auto and do my own focusing. This may sound like a low list of requirements, but that was my list. Then I... Read full review »

The Canon s3is is an awesome camera. It works well in Auto mode for the typical point and shoot user who doesn't want to control it manually, but has manual control modes for more advanced users.

Forget flowers, chocolates and sappy sentimental cards. When I was down in the dumps about being the only family member (outside of my three-year old) that didn't have a camera, but I was the one that tried to use the camera most often, my husband came home the next day with the S3.

I had been using a Kodak CX4300 (3.2MP) for about the last four years, and although it did the job when originally purchased, I had just gotten to the point where I no longer bothered trying to use it when a high speed or long distance shot was needed.

I finally decided to break down a... Read full review »

Pros Great camera (other than this flaw). Takes a great picture, good zoom.
Cons The hassle of getting it fixed.

I've owned the camera for about a year. About 4 months ago I started noticing a "what looks like a fiber or scratch" in the same location at the bottom of most of my pictures. I bought this as an upgrade from my well-used and still loved Fuji 330 for the birth of kid #3.

This camera is a top-of-the-line camera in the point-n-shoot category. Canon just released the S5-IS, which is basically the same camera but more megapixels and a few other small features.
