Cannon G5 PowerShot

byrochford Jan 13, 2004

Pros Continuous Shooting, Wireless Control, Tilt Swivel LCD, 5.0 Megapixel.
Cons You will have to buy extra memory as only comes with 32Mb CompactFlash Card.
Recommended it? Yes

The G5 has lived up to all my expectations and gone far beyond them. I was looking for an all rounder that gave me that little extra control over the pictures I would be taking. On auto mode the results have been above my expectations, and it has all the manual control needed to take perfect... Read full review »

Pros Ease of use, quality of pictures
Cons Lens cap falls off all the time.
Recommended it? Yes

I owned the 4 MP G4 before this camera and have been very pleased with both products. I sold my G4 to a friend and upgraded to the G5. The camera takes awesome pictures which I print at home using a Canon Pixma IP8500. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone wanting an easy to use but very... Read full review »

Pros good picture quality, lots of features.
Cons bulky, red eye problems

I feel that this camera, is pretty great. It is quite big, and bulky, but for a professional camera I feel it does its job. I bought a Cannon photo printer and let me tell you how wonderful the pictures come out. They are so clear and amazing. the battery life is pretty good as well, and its so easy... Read full review »

Pros I love the multifunctionality of the Canon Powershot.
Cons I would like the manual to be in the form of an online tutorial.
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon Powershot G5 is a camera that can grow with your needs. It can be used as a totally automatic camera, or completely manual. This is the reason I bought the Powershot. When I become a really savvy user, I can even add extra flashes and zoom lenses. It is unfortunate that without prior... Read full review »

Cons Is there nothing that is perfect? Red eye, shmed eye, that's why we have Photoshop?!
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the camera for its versatility, smallness and superior quality. Better that my traditional Nikon 35mm. It takes me to places I've never been. If you can love a machine, this is it. Read full review »

Most disappointing camera experience ever

byrharder Jan 24, 2004

Pros Hot shoe. Wireless remote control (included). Flip-out screen
Cons Slow, slow, slow. Poor autofocus. Poor metering.
Recommended it? No

Perhaps my 35mm Elan 7e spoiled me into assuming the G5 would be fast, quiet, intuitive, well laid out, and take good pictures. How disappointing.

The G5 was slow in zooming, slow in focusing, slow in metering, slow in writing pictures to the card. The G5 made lots of noise, even when I... Read full review »

Cons lens cap falls off easily... not a big deal
Recommended it? Yes

As a novice photographer I was looking for a camera that takes great pictures and gives me lots of features that I may not choose to use all the time. The I started out with an S-50 but due to quality issues (I got 2 lemons in a row) I ended up with the G-5 and I'm glad I did.

The G-5 is... Read full review »

Best combination of features and performance at its price and target group

byamathias Apr 7, 2004

Pros Fast. Huge Battery. Remote Control. Lens. LCD. 4x optical zoom
Cons Size (larger than others). Purple fringing is there but not really a huge problem.
Recommended it? Yes

Better lens - beats nikon, other canons and lower prices minolta G500 etc. Sure Sony DSC V1 has a Carls Zeiss, canon's is rated superior to the lens on the Sony.

Better features - everything you could possibly want.

Big battery

Pros Fast shutter speed. Large "zoom" range. Sleek look. Inexpensive.
Cons Bulky, it's a bigh camera, bad pictures at night or in shade.
Recommended it? Yes

The canon powershot is one of the best cameras on the market right now. The picture is clear, it has amazing shutter speed, and it zooms in a lot. I don't know how far exactly, but far. Buy
