Perfect Prints Every Time

The Lowdown

I may not be a pro, but I am no novice when it comes to photos. I have had 5 printers, a Epson III, HP Deskjet 675C, a Lexmark Z22,
a Textronix Phaser 750N, and finally the PIXMA Ip6000(D). The PIXMA has no real competion other than that of HP, but it also seems to meet mosts needs without going overboard ($750 for a HP Pro printer!).

Specs

This printer is somewhat bulky, but that is to be expected as with all the features it has. The printer has a 2.5" lcd screen, which incorporates a easy to navagate menu. ON the outside it sports a universal card reader, but dosen't accept PCMCIA cards. It has a usb port (for Pictbridge which allows you to either use the memory card, or just plug it in directly), and a IR port. On the top there is a feed tray like those of a regular printer, but on the bottom, there is a tray feeder typical to that of a laser printer in which it just slides out. It is not common to find both of those in a printer most only have one. THe buttons consist of a power, feed select, zoom, ok & cancel, 4 way navigation, open folder, tranfer to computer, print, trimming, search, menu, and back. These can be complicated to those who are just starting out. On the back there is a USB port and a figure 8 power connector, which is the built in adaptor.

Setup

PC Setup

Tools Needed:

-USB Cable
-included power cable
-included CD
-computer with USB port

The install was quick and painless, once you connect the printer as it shows in the install guide, the printer is either reconized or, the Found New Hardware Wizard comes up. Once you get to the CD part you just insert the CD and let it go. The other option is to run setup from CD. From there all you need to do is open the file, select the printer, and print.

Setup with standalone

Tools needed:
-Camera with USB cable
-or-
-memory cardb
-printer
power cord
connect and/or insert everthing and you are ready to go, all of which are in the manual.

This form of setup is EXTREMELY Painless.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

It is not a fashion statement but the printer gets it's job done. It has 6 seperate inks ( Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Photo Cyan, Photo Magents) all of which don't have to be replaced at once, but can be removed and replaced seperately. The photos are such good quality that although they may fade over time (decades) they are very good for years to come. This printer is best used with photo, or glossy paper as the pictures don't look as nice on plain paper (same as a really cheap printer). It would be nice to see built-in wireless or even wired printin over network, but it is fine as is, it would not be a make or break factor. This printer does borderless printing easily (no annoying white borders), as with some printers, and has a 4800 x 1600 dpi resolution.
