Off to a Great Start

Pros direct printing, LCD display, two paper trays, two sided printing, excellent photo printing
Cons not really any, maybe LCD display could be brighter when you are looking at photos
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Lots of features, excellent photo printing, small price
Well I've had my PIXMA iP6000D for about a week now, and so far I am very impressed.

I've been a dedicated EPSON photo printer guy for many years (my Photo 870 is still going strong) , but I just recently bought my wife a new Canon Camera and with the rebate, I couldn't pass up trying this new printer..

The key features that got me to buy this one are:

1) direct printing from a camera (PictBridge) and/or memory cards..so my wife who hates computers can easily get prints when she wants them

2) LCD display so you can see what your printing (see above)

3) Two paper trays, so you can leave photo paper loaded and still use the printer for everyday tasks

4) Automatic double sided printing (it really works!)

5) 6 color ink, and individual ink tanks that you DON'T have to swap out every time you switch from photos to text (boo on HP for still doing this in even their top-of-the-line photo printers)

6) price

I've printed several photos now (8x10s on Kodak paper, 4x6 on Canon paper) that I can compare with both my Epson 870 and an HP 5150 i got on the cheap with a new computer...the Canon holds its own against the Epson, blacks are black and the contrast holds up well..the HP does not compare..blacks are a dull gray (even with the photo cartridge)

Text and non-photo graphics are very good as well.

I'm not too critical about speed, but the Canon is decidedly faster than my old Epson, even in the highest quality settings.

I have not experimented with much of the software yet, they have included several photo enhancing tricks on the printer driver that i usually perform with photo editing software...more experiments to come.

For the price, this printer offers quite a bit, and I am very happy with my purchase so far..I'll keep updating as the photos age and I get more experience with the driver software

UPDATE:
Well I'm still impressed. The two paper tray system turns out to be the best feature..I keep the bottom tray loaded with 4x6 photo paper and the top loaded with plain paper. My wife is thrilled that she doesn't have to load paper every time she wants to print a photo.

Photo quality is very good, I am still learning how to adjust parameters on the software, but "as is" is working very well
