The Bottom Line:
The best inkjet printer I've ever owned - highly recommended.
I purchased the Canon Pixma ip4000 to replace a noisy inexpensive Epson printer. I wanted the printer to be quiet, capable of high quality output, and inexpensive to run. I've had other Epson, Xerox, Canon and HP printers and this Canon printer is equal or superior to them in almost every way.
Of particular note is this printer's paper handling capabilities. This printer has two trays, one below the printer, one on top. The software can switch between papers sources or it can be done automatically, OR by a front panel button. I keep envelopes in the top tray and letter size paper in the bottom one.
Another feature that I've never seen on a inkjet printer, or any printer anywhere near this price for that matter is automatic two sided printing. Simply select duplex printing when printing a document and the printer prints on one side of the page, pulls it back into the printer and turns it over, then prints on the second side. Printing speed is reasonable good in all modes.
The printer can also power itself up and down automatically, so it is only fully powered up when needed.
In short, I've found lots to like about this printer, and nothing not to like.
Highly recommended.
