Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Highly recommended. Great paper handling features, very good photo quality printing, good ink economy, quiet operation and pretty good print speed. Canon's got it all covered with this one!
After a few months with this printer, I am extremely pleased with it. It is quiet, efficient, and the quality of print jobs, both text and pictures, exceeds my expectations in a printer at this price point.
Perhaps my positive feelings toward this printer might be thanks to the comparison of a horrible 2 years with an Epson C62, but regardless, I cannot say enough good about the Canon.
I am still on the factory-supplied cartridges. My old Epson was perpetually out of ink due to its heavy consumption aggravated by the constant need to run cleaning cycles. No such problems with the Canon. I have left the Canon unused for weeks at a time and then when needed, it just fires out print jobs without any problems; no paper jams, no clogged heads, no empty ink (yet). I also like the separate color cartridges which will likely be a further money-saver.
Paper handling is great with the cool feature of having two different paper trays. You can have 2 types of paper loaded at any given time with a very easy push of a button to toggle between them as required. I also am very pleased with the two-sided printing option. Yes, as others have mentioned, it isn't too fast, but I don't think it is any slower than having to take out the printed page and flip it over and reload it again, as was always the procedure in all my previous printers before.
Those two paper features (Duplex printing & the dual paper feed sources) were not features that sold me on the printer. I didn't really think either of those would matter much to me while I was shopping this printer, but now that I have them, I may be spoiled by them when the day comes that I need to replace this printer!
Print quality for text is fine. Perhaps that could be slightly better on plain paper, but I only really see flaws when looking up close and carefully for them. Really, it's perfectly fine, and frankly does anyone really need their text to be "photo-quality"??
Print quality for photos is what really pleases me most. These aren't the cheapest printers, but they are on the lower end of the price scale. So, when I tried my first attempt at a photo print on the included photo paper, I was pleasantly surprised by how really good it was. The color was good, first try, and the smoothness of the image was absolutely perfect. Considering I wasn't using optional "photo" cartridges, I was pleased. And the speed of a high quality print is very good, as well.
Overall, this is a great printer for the money. I can't think of a single thing to complain about - at least not after this first 3 or 4 months with it.
