Good printer....but "iffy" past the warranty period
Pros
Ink cheap to buy and printing quality great.
Cons
small ink cartridges and prone to smudging when printing
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend this printer as I do not feel it can be relied upon for good printouts past the warranty period.
I purchased the Canon Pixma ip1500 a little over a year ago. I loved it and found it made beautiful prints. Then, a few months later, the printing seemed faded in places and I contacted Canon. As it was still under warranty, they decided the problem was the printer heads and sent me out a new set. I received the package in a very few days. I found the tech help service excellent, (but they did say, that once the printer passed its year warranty period and acted up), to throw it away as it would not be worth fixing.
After I installed the new heads, it worked well for a month or two, then I started finding ink smudges here and there on everything I tried to print. I went into the "help" menu and tried cleaning the heads... with the result, that the printing was not improved and I was now almost out of ink! I took the printer apart as much as I could and did a good cleaning...roller and all. This did not help either. I do not feel like buying more ink as the printing is now so poor. So even though this printer was great for awhile, it was only great until the warranty period was off. The ink is not terribly expensive but the cartridges are small so any maintenance ink usage quickly depletes it. I loved the ease of using this printer but find it unreliable for long term use.
