A good mid price professional camera for the novice or pro
Heavier than point and shoot and the low end Rebel series.
The Bottom Line:
Great camera, good lens, high megapixels, easy to use
After using exclusively film cameras since the 70's I found the jump to digital an easy one to make. I bought the Canon EOS 50D as it was within my budget and a step up from the Canon Rebel series which I also own and use. I was looking for the larger megapixel offering without totally breaking my budget. The camera is a bit heavier than the extremely light Rebel series but in comparison to the standard 35mm film cameras, about the same weight. In the beginning, it took me a while to catch on to all the "bells and whistles" that came with this upgrade but with patience and taking the time to read the little booklet that comes with these cameras, it wasn't long before I was off and running. It was also a bit frustrating to find my photos in the very beginning seemed a bit fuzzy to me or not as clear as I would of thought. This did work itself out quickly as I become more adept at handling the camera and using my tripod for those really important shots. This camera is currently my work horse for all of my photography while using the Rebel as a backup in the field. I love the features and ease of use of this particular model camera as the LED screen in the back for checking the validity of your shot or to eliminate the ones you don't like before uploading is large and clear, a decidedly nice feature. The 28-135mm lens is good for a variety of shooting. The Image Stabilizer that comes with most lenses these days is a life saver. It prevents that blur that can come with camera shake when hand holding your camera and not using a tripod. Great for overall landscape shots as well as up close and personal portrait work (not to mention capturing a nice wildlife shot when out in the field), this lens is a good overall basic zoom for most any photographer. The lens itself is fairly lightweight and doesn't make the entire camera too heavy for hand held useage.
