The Product
CIBA Air Optix Night & Day Aqua is the newest and most advanced member of their old standby, the Night & Day line of extended wear soft contact lenses. The full details can be found on their website: http://www.airoptix.com/AONDA/AIR_OPTIX_AONDA.shtml
To summarize: These contacts are designed for "extended wear", meaning they are FDA approved to keep in your eye at all times for up to 30 days at a time. This is due to the high level of oxygen that is able to pass through the lens to your eye, which the website claims is the "most of any soft contact lens available" as of this writing.
My History
As with anything, I think my background will assist you in judging how much weight to give my review. I have been wearing soft contact lenses for over 15 years now. I am vision impaired to the point where I cannot read the numbers on my digital clock next to my bed without my contacts or glasses. As you might imagine, this can pose a significant issue for me, as I very much need contacts or glasses to watch television, read or do pretty much anything else. I am also very active, playing a wide variety of sports. I have worn a wide variety of lenses, mostly from CIBA or Acuvue in the past, in addition to wearing glasses for a small minority of the time.
My Experience
As you can see from my history above, I was really looking for a contact lens I could sleep in. This started a number of years ago, with CIBA Night & Day, one of the first "extended wear" contacts. These contacts would do wonders compared to accidentally sleeping in other contact lens brands, but my eyes would still become very dry, especially near the end of my 30 day wear period. These new CIBA Air Optix Night & Day Aqua contact lenses are a great improvement over these old contact lenses in this respect. During my 30 day wear period, I do not get the same level of dryness or discomfort as with this previous product in the line. As someone who looks from side to side very quickly, the contacts stick with my eyes very well. The contacts do not seem to "wear out" near the end of the 30 day period either, something I have had an issue with using other brands. My experience with these contacts has been nothing short of fantastic.
Alternatives
When I selected these contact lenses, I also tried a pair of the Acuevue Oaysis contact lenses, a similar "extended wear" contact lenses. These offered the same features, but I found that the last week of my 30 days, the contacts seemed to "wear out" and became very dry and uncomfortable. I found them to be inferior to the corresponding CIBA product
