This review is on the Bushnell Powerview 12x25 Binoculars model number 13-1225/MW001/A1 made in China. These are 12 times magnification of 25mm view non-zoom prime lenses.
These binoculars have a limited lifetime warranty from Bushnell. Listed as being rustproof, but not waterproof or fogproof.
I purchased these binoculars used about two months ago and because they have worked above expectations, I decided to share my thoughts here.
Each lens barrel has a rubberized exterior from end to end, however, the relatively long connecting bridge between the two lens barrel is not rubberized.
The neck strap is attached to either side of the connecting bridge near the lens barrels. The neck strap has the look and feel of heavy duty shipping string -- thin but strong. It offers no padding for the neck and does not have a length adjustment feature built in. Strong, but no frills (hey, can one expect at this price level?)
I have read many negative reviews for these binoculars mainly centered around both eyes not being able to be adjusted into focus. Let me try to explain how to establish the critical focus just to make sure there is no user error involved.
The eyecup of the left lens barrel does not twist. The focus is controled by the focus wheel at the top of the connecting bridge. Looking through ONLY the LEFT lens, turn and adjust the focus wheel at the top of the connecting bridge until the distant object you seek to view comes in sharp focus. Once the left lens is in sharp focus, do not touch the focus wheel on the connecting bridge. Instead, switch to looking through only the RIGHT lens. At this point, the view through the RIGHT lens is likely very blurred. To correct this and to bright the right lens into propper critical focus, turn the focus ring of the RIGHT eyecup (slowly twist the whole right EYECUP). Turn the right eyecup focus ring while looking at the same distant object until it is sharp and clear. Then, open both eyes and squeeze together both lens barrels until both eyes can see the distant image at the same time.
If you move closer to or further away from the distant object, you will need to use the focus wheel at the top of the connecting bridge to re-establish the critical focus. And the same is true if the distant object object (such as if it is a moving sailboat) physically moves closer to, or further away from, you -- you will need to re-establish the critical focus as locations change. This is normal.
If you are trying to look at more than one thing in the same view, such as two zoo animals, and one animal is in front of the other, set and adjust your focus on the animal further away -- more distant to you. The depth of focus is more forgiving the more distant the object. This is normal.
