Moisture barrier, not moisturizer

Pros creates a moisture barrier to keep hands soft
Cons greasy, smells like Vicks Vaporub, does not moisturize
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I think that I will pass on this one
This little 0.30 ounce (8.5 g) tin of hand salve came in a Burt's Bees starter kit. You can buy the 3 ounce tin for about $6. I am very glad that I did not shell out any money for the big tin of Burt's Bees Hand Salve.

I do not plan to buy any more of this hand salve because it smells like Vicks Vaporub and is as greasy as Vaseline.

I guess that I should have expected it to be waxy, since it contains bees' wax, but I did not expect it to have that awful medicine smell. And if I get it into an open cut, it stings.

It does not seem to moisturize my skin, although it can prevent my hands from losing moisture.

I love most Burt's Bees products because they are natural and Earth friendly, and they are never tested on animals. However, I hate this product. It smells bad, feels greasy and does not work as advertised.

From the web site:

"Our most intensive hand treatment, this formula is packed with botanical oils, herbs and beeswax to moisturize hard working, rough, dry hands. It's an everyday miracle."

Ingredients:

Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, beeswax, fragrance, tocopheryl acetate, symphytum officinale (comfrey) root extract, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaves, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flowers, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil.

98.05% Natural

I think I know what the "fragrance" is – it smells like camphor.

My experience:

I have found this salve useful as a moisture barrier, but not as a moisturizer. My skin still feels dry after I rub in this salve.

If I use it right before doing my gardening, it does help to keep the dirt from sticking to my skin as much as it otherwise would. When I wash my hands after working in my garden, the dirt comes off more easily than if I had not used this salve.

If I use another moisturizer first, this salve will help to keep the moisturizer on my skin for a longer time.

I hate the smell, and I hate the greasy feeling, so I will pass on this product. There are better ones out there. My personal favorite is Udderly Smooth.
