It's the Bees' Knees

Pros Terrific conditioning, great feel
Cons Can't find it in lots of stores
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you buy one lip balm this season, make it this one!
Okay, that's a hokey title...but so appropriate when talking about this lip balm. I've always disliked the term 'balm' because it brings to mind some kind of thick, old chap-stick-candle-wax type texture. However, it is what it is. This particular product, however, is more than just a balm. I received it as a free gift with something I ordered from Drugstore.com, and after giving it a try, I will certainly buy more when my tube runs out.

Packaging
It's available in either a tube (for easiest application, in my opinion), or in a tin if you're a screw-top kind of person. For the sake of this review, I can only discuss the tube type. It's your standard, run-of-the-mill lip balm container, with a twistable bottom and a pop off cap. Small and portable, with a bright yellow color scheme which makes for easier locating in the dark recesses of my purse.

Features
Made of beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower oil, Vitamin E, lanolin, peppermint oil, comfrey root extract, and rosemary extract, one can see this is a very natural concoction. Burt's Bees products are all very earth-friendly, by the way. I don't know exactly which of the items is the most beneficial, but together they are divine. The products is clear, with the slight fragrance of mint. I've seen this balm advertised on websites and always shirked away because of the word 'beeswax', in and of itself. It makes me think of that candle wax feeling I described earlier. (How wrong I was.) It's touted as the world's best lip balm, and I completely agree. Honest marketing...imagine that.

Benefits
With one application, my lips felt smoother and softer. While the texture is thick, it's not gloppy or difficult to apply. It's not super slick like some of the conditioning lip shines of late either. There's no gloss effect, so it's suitable for men as well as women. The smell of mint is fairly strong at first, but fades within 5 minutes and a tingling, cool feeling sets in. (I love this feeling, by the way.) It's as if you can feel the rejuvenation happening. As a side note, as with any gloss or balm, reapplication is necessary after eating, drinking, or kissing. Caution though: this does not have any sunscreen.

After reading some of the other reviews, I've started using this just before bedtime. True to the suggestions, my lips are softer in the morning and lipstick application is easier. A recent snowstorm here gave me the chance to try it on chapped lips and it did the trick. I feared the pepperminty bit would sting, but it did not.

I've since discovered some bookstores carry this product at their counters, as well as Cracker Barrel restaurants. Burtsbees.com has a store locater (by zipcode) though. This product has made a wonderful addition to my beauty routine.
