BURBERRY CLASSIC FOR MEN
100ml EDT Spray
INTRODUCTION
When my parents brought me a bottle of Burberry eau de toilette from the Duty Free the first thing that went through my head was the black, tan and red Burberry check, and a ‘Chav alert’ flashed in my head!!
Thankfully the Burberry check is now reduced to a thin band at the bottom of a tasteful red box and I found the EDT very pleasant.
BURBERRY
Burberry introduced its men’s cologne Burberry of London in 1995 and in 2006 they launched ‘London For Men’ to celebrate 150 years of the beginning of the Burberry brand as Burberry itself was founded as a clothing manufacturer in 1856 by 21 year old Thomas Burberry.
The infamous "Burberry classic check" was first used as a lining for a trenchcoat in 1924. In 1967 this check was used for bags, umbrellas, caps etc and by the 1970’s had the ‘chavvy’ reputation.
Today Burberry make and sell 10 women’s fragrances and six colognes for men.
In 1996 Burberry London for men became Burberry Classic for men.
PACKAGE AND APPEARANCE
The bottle comes in a dark red box with gold lettering and Burberry signature.
I have actually seen this packaged in two ways recently – one has the Burberry check trim printed in a thin strip on the bottom of the box, the other has the Burberry check ribbon tied around the box.
Mine was the former packaging.
The bottle itself is clear glass with the name Burberry written on the front.
The bottle has an oval base, a silver cap under which is a spray nozzle.
The whole package is classy and attractive.
HOW DOES IT SMELL?
The description given of this cologne is that it contains ”bergamot, juniper, jasmine and is accented with patchouli, musk and cedar making Burberry perfect for casual use".
I would describe the smell of this cologne as being crisp, spicy, fresh, woody with a citrus base, the more floral (may I say rather feminine sounding) jasmine and patchouli didn’t jump out at me, but after reading of them, (maybe it’s physiological), I think I can detect that slightly floral background. Not that this is a feminine scent, it is definitely a masculine, manly scent.
The softer floral tones simply give it an extra dimension.
HOW DOES IT LAST?
When I first used the EDT I thought that it was a little overpowering, but after a very short while the smell becomes more subtle and it is a long lasting fragrance, smelling as good at night as when you put it on in the morning.
A little of this fragrance goes a long way but it is not overpowering.
PRICE
This cologne is widely available and ranges from $99.00 to $49, so shop around.
IN CONCLUSION
A very pleasant cologne that can be worn for any occasion and suitable for anyone from late teens upwards.
Just don’t wear a Burberry check cap with it!!
